Is it true that a veteran only gets health benefits if s/he has a combat-related injury or has been declared disabled? For instance, if a veteran gets some disease when he's 55 (30+ years since discharge and injury is not related to wartime service) can he get any benefits whatsoever? Also, if you know where it says this on the VA site or somewhere else, please tell. Thanks.

If you are a veteran or someone you care about is a vet. Please visit your local VFW or American Legion. They will help with ANYTHING. As veterans we know about teamwork and that if you don't watch out for your buddy, no one will watch out for you.

You don't need to be a member, only a veteran.

Most of the time it helps if it is Service connected, but the VA can help with other issues. Please visit and speak to the service officer. He will make sure that you get taken care of.

Good luck and Airborne.

I am a vet. ANY former military person can go to the V.A. for health services. They don't have to be a combat vet or one wounded in battle. The V.A. just needs proof of service (DD Form 214) and a driver's license. That's it! They will issue you a V.A. hospital card. If you served 4 years as a supply clerk, get out, and catch the sniffles 20 years later, you can go into the V.A. for treatment. I thought this when I first got out. I had no health insurance and my ear was so infected I almost lost my hearing. I went to the V.A and they fixed me up for about $20.

IT IS NOT FREE! The V.A. does something called "Means Testing" in which they charge you based upon your income which you need to submit every year. In college, I didn't make much money and I broke my elbow. I saw 2 doctors, got xrays, a sling, anti-biotics, and the bill came to about $50.

A veteran should go immediately to their county vet office and register. There they can learn about health and education benefits. Most places will ask that you register first as verification that you are a military veteran.

OH OH OH! AND! If you are registered and get a V.A. hospital card, you can use ANY V.A. HOSPITAL in the world. I went to Florida and got sick, their V.A. hospital said I couldn't go in for treatment, BULL-FKING-SH*T, if I can't use my home V.A., I can use anyone that is closest to me. It is all one big service, they can just send the bill to my house.

Some of the rules have changed recently, but my husband retired 9 years ago with 20 years of active duty Navy. He retired at age 38. Him and I and children (till they're 21, 23 if still in college) get full medical coverage with no premiums to pay. We pay like a few hundred dollars as deductible but the rest is covered. And he has no service related or any other injuries or illnesses.

in basic terms being a veteran, even a war veteran, does no longer advise you get existence time well being care from the VA. The VA is there to handle veterans with service appropriate injuries and ailment's. to no longer cope with all people who exchange right into a veteran., The VA has desperate to allow veterans with out service related injuries and ailment's to maintain on with for VA well being care. yet they have strict policies that ought to be met, and numerous different distinctive categories for those veterans. at present the VA now no longer accepts class 8 veterans into the gadget. And it feels like that's what your husband has been rated, a variety 8 veteran. in case you like existence time well being care, then you quite serve 2 many years in the militia and retire.

IT is a travesty the way the Government has decided to treat our vets. MY AND YOUR familes have blead for this country, mine is at least 5 gens deep. My brother was in Bosnia, fighting 'terrorism' before it was popular.

The thought that they are doing this to our VETS makes me want to go through a wall. Berzerkergang.

Let me tell you a story about how I feel about our armed forces.
Right after 911, my brother came down here to Tampa for leave.
There are 3 brothers, we went out with some friends and headed down to ybor.

Well, we were having a good time, and about to leave when we were walking down the street and someone purposefully banged into my brother. As I recall he was wearing some army stuff.
So I say to the guy "Say excuse me"
He says "No"
I say "This man is in the ARMY protecting your ***, and you want to ******* disrespect him. **** YOU! Say excuse me"
He says "no"
Well, I said right fist to his face even though he was behind to bigger guys. I got a nice scar under my eyebrow but it was worth it.
That was the first time I have ever hit anybody in true anger. I hope to never have to do that again.

Who would like to stop being a slave?
Watch this video at http://www.revereradio.net

Then read my Q and A's.
Are you ready for a revollution?
Right to petition.
They cant use the military on us.
WE control the supply lines.

Im pretty sure it has to be deployment related. I got back from Iraq a year ago, and I had VA benefits for 3 months. But, VA health care is sub par, if you really need treat ment you do not want a VA hospital looking after you. for more information go to your local VA office, they are usually found in County office buildings.

Any honorably-discharged veteran is allowed to receive veteran's benefits.

Here is a link that explains who gets what benefits:

Sometimes you can get some help with stuff like, meds and some testing, its few and far between and you can't have any other insurance. At one point my husband was refused a free flu shot because he wasn't in the service at the right time. So it depends on your needs and so forth.
