Don't worry - easy thing to say I suppose -but they will sort him out.

My dad went in for same op , but as soon as they opened him up they sewed him back again because the cance was so far spread. So things might seem bad for him at the moment -but they could be a lot worse

Keep smiling.

This doesn't sound good. They are probably concerned about infection. There can be complications from surgery and hospital patients are very vulnerable to picking up infections. It sounds like he's fairly fragile and they need him to be in better shape before they start any chemo or radiation treatment, which they will probably want to do even if they think they got all the cancer. Did they give you any idea about whether the cancer had spread to other organs? If it had, his prognosis is much less optimistic. All you can do is help him keep up his spirits. And pray. Also, make sure that your husband gets regular colonoscopies, since he may have a genetic predisposition to developing colon cancer. When there is a family history, regular colon cancer screening should begin around age 40, and everyone over 50 should be screened routinely.

Bed sores occur when continual resting on soft tissues causes necrosis or tissue death, he wasn't moving around enough or his position wasn't chaned often enough allowing rest and blood flow to the surrounding tissues, if he is going for an MRI they are checking if he has a more deep seated infection or post op problems, post op infections are common, bed sores or pressure sores are due to poor nursing management, if he was immobile he should have been turned every 2 hrs, or encouraged to change position if he was able to..

Bed sores that go untreated can invade surrounding tissue and affect the bone. Some times surgery is needed to clean these wounds out. If he has to be bedridden for any extended period of time make sure that he does stay in one position all of the time.

THE BED SORES ARE NOT COMMON! THE PEOPLE IN THAT HOSPITAL ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB! THEY SHOULD BE REPOSITIONING HIM AT LEAST EVERY TWO HOUR TO PREVENT SKIN BREAK DOWN! UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE MOST LIKELY DOING THE MRI ON THE WOUND TO SEE IF IT HAS TUNNELED TO THE BONE! CONTACT AN ATTORNEY FILE A MALPRACTICE SUITE, IF IT CAN'T HELP YOUR FATHER IN LAW MAYBE IT WILL HELP THE NEXT PERSON WHO ENTERS THAT HOSPITAL!
GOOD LUCK YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE IN MY PRAYERS!

Not as much normal as plainly slight-dangerous. You're father-in-law will most like be in good condition after the MRI but, Just keep faith, he'll make it through.
