Don't go with worms, I can't believe someone would say that. Not all birds are meat eaters. Seed should never be given as a main diet. They like pasta, cooked beans, corn on the cob, Pellets, fresh fruit, No Avacados, no celery, no lettuce, no caffine, no chocolate. Almost anything you are eating you can offer to your bird.
My birds enjoy scrambled eggs, ham, toast, soups, and even pizza. Most birds have the same dietary needs that we have.

The pet store will carry many different seed mixtures as well as pelleted foods specific for the breed of bird that you have. Birds also like to have fresh fruit and vegetables every day. Most birds like to have dark green leafy lettuces as well. Never feed any pet iceberg lettuce ( the kind Mc Donald's uses on hamburgers) because it has no nutrition at all and can make them sick.
A happy bird will have a variety of foods every day, toys to play with and at least one hour per day out of its cage to exercise. It will sing or make happy sounding noises and will not pluck its feathers.
If your bird sits on its perch with its feathers fluffed up, it is probably very ill and needs a vet immediately.

Your bird will chirp alot. And as for food it depends on the type of bird some birds prefer fruit others veggies. They all have their likings.My cockatiel likes corn flakes, but as a treat. Hope that helps!

Pellets are the best along with fresh fruits and veggies-
No chocolate, avocados, caffeine, or colas.

I have Parakeets at my home and i am a Vegetarian we do fed them everything what we eat, from chocolates to sweets from seeds to cooked rice, cooked and raw vegetables breads, whatever we eat they eat even Ice cream, cakes, cheese, milk, yogurt. If they lives with you then they should know your taste and ofcourse they like our taste.
