I know that English speakers talk loudly to foreigners because there is an subconscious assumption that if you do not understand then you must be deaf.

So, maybe this is a similar phenomenon. Or, maybe the English speaker is speaking loudly and they are speaking loudly back?

Maybe they hope they are clearer by speaking loudly?

Some Arabic speakers just sound like they are mad and yelling in English. I think it's got something to do with their phonetics carried into English. Surely there are other languages like this as well.

It's because the person on the other line is farther away; therefore, it is proper public telephone etiquette to speak loudly so the other person can hear you across various cities, states, oceans and countries.

hmmmmm...maybe because they feel awkward? or maybe they're thinking that they should speak a bit more loud than usual so that the other person can understand what they are saying? or maybe they are just too conscious of the words they utter that they tend to speak louder than usual? i honestly dont know. hahahahaha!!! often wondered about that same thing myself. :)

I know but maybe its a habit or they think the other person on the line can't hear them.
