My sister-in-law was adopted by my father-in-law when she was 6 years old. she is 21 now. I saw her birth certificate last year when she was getting ready to go to school in Canada and it had my father-in-laws name on it as the father. The biological father was nowhere on it. I live in Michigan I don't know if it's different in different states.

"Replacing the original birth record after an adoption for a child born in Minnesota
After the adoption is finalized in the county where the adoptive parents live, the district court completes a Certificate of Adoption form and mails the form to the Office of the State Registrar at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

MDH uses the information provided on the Certificate of Adoption form to create a new birth record showing the new adopted birth information. The original birth record and all correspondence pertaining to the original birth record is considered confidential and released only under very limited circumstances."

I bet each state can be a little different. Look your state up.

The biological father is always listed on the birth certificate. It can't be changed.
