Don't apply for college until your senior year. You should start looking at colleges in your junior year and start making your decision as to where you would like to apply. Visit campuses and get a feel for the school to see if you like it.
Also, I would like to college not only in NY, but maybe in NJ and probably D.C. Check out colleges on the east coast and see what you like.
Here's a list of recommendations (including collleges I have visited so far):
Georgetown
George Washington University
American University
Howard
University of Maryland
Bard
Columbia
Seton Hall
Rutgers
Also, if you can't pay for college there are a couple of ways to get help:
FAFSA (Financial Aid Forms for Student Aid)
Or
You can get scholarships (depending on how good your grades are, your SAT scores, and what college you're applying to)
Or
If you're affiliated with a religious or political association, they might be able to help you out and loan you money.
Hope this helped.

Start applying as soon as you know what you want to do and where you want to go.Depending on where you are some states have progrrams that completely pay for your college in that specific state if you did well in high school. There are grants that noone ever applies for because they think someone else will get. Just apply, fill out the applications, and you have a chance of getting it. There is also FAFSA It is financial aid from the government. Whatever isn't used for tuition and books is returned to you. I hope things work out. God bless

you can apply for college any time the year before you will start. for example, any time after the current year has started (like August or September), recruiters are looking for students for the following year and you can apply that early or at least by January of the actual year you'll go. So get your ap in right after you start your senior year in H.S. and you'll be just fine.
BONUS INFO! Call your college can ask if they have any application fee waivers if you apply by a certain deadline. It could save you quite a lot, as it usually costs about $50 or more just to apply.

the great ones evade it, yet i imagine it isn't a threat now to not inject some form of bias in a narrative because of being human. it may well be very complicated to stay impartial about the concern if its something somewhat ugly, like a baby assassin. If the reporter says "it is my opinion" then its a piece of writing. i have also considered how some information businesses slant the opinion by technique of cleverly wording the questions and controlling what topics are pronounced (i.e., Fox information) - it is not journalism, it is editorialism - it is why I hardly watch Fox information anymore, notwithstanding different information businesses have performed a similar element. I now take all media information resources with a "grain of salt".

I applied in the beginning of my senior year (September-November) and got responses by April/May. Check the website of the colleges you want to apply and see their deadline, usually they want you to apply your senior year by December 1st or Earlier. Also ask your college advisor or counselor. The Military should be your last option. try applying for financial aid or if you have a Good GPA, apply for scholarships. If you get good SAT scores, some colleges would offer to pay your education as long as you maintain a good GPA. You can also apply for loans or grants.

The best time to LOOK for colleges is the summer before your junior year or if you get a late start the summer after your junior year and that is when you would start applying.

If you are set on the specific college, check and see what you need to get into that college.
Send out in Spring of your senior year. Some places may want Fall of your senior year, but yur transcripts are, obviously, incomplete.
have a fallback plan

There are special loan places just for college bound students. They give you loans, and don't expect payment until you've graduated and started a job. Also, apply for lots and lots of scholarships, and start now. I'm going into my senior year now too.
