I tried, but I didn't feel anything and I couldn't cry like they did or speak in tongues like the did. What do you do?????? I was soooooo confused. I knew i wanted to do it but i didnt know how.

Pentecostals believe that if you don't speak in tongues that you don't have the Holy spirit, yet, I can't find anywhere in the Bible where it says that this is the only evidence of his presence.
speaking in unknown tongues was a tool to get the Gospel out to others who spoke a different language, the person that spoke unknown tongues (it was only unknown to them) the person they spoke to, understood what they were saying. today we have translators, we have no need of that gift anymore.
the Bible tells us that we receive the holy spirit at the moment we are saved. I have been to pentecostal churches before, and I can tell you that most of what I saw was not of God. the only incident I find in the bible where people rolled in the floor and spoke in tongues were the demonic that Jesus cast a legion of demons out of.
when they spoke in tongues at that church, who translated? because the Bible says not to do it, if there is not a translator around.. "God is not the author or confusion" .. Satan is!

I kno what u mean...that sorta happened to me too.
But I think that if you really want the Holy Spirit to come into you, and you really want to speak in tongues, it'll come. Jesus looks at your heart, and if in your heart you want the Holy Spirit, He will come. But even if you think you're not doing it right, speaking in tongues, I mean, still, just do it everyday even if you think you're saying a bunch of nothing. If your heart is right, then the Holy Spirit will do what He is supposed to do, which is intercede on your behalf to God. Because He knows what you're really trying to say.
It may not be easy, but you're supposed to pray in the Spirit if you don't know what to pray for, or how to pray. It allows you to speak to God through the most inner parts of your heart.
Don't worry about what other people do or think. If they are falling all out on the floor because they got touched by the Holy Spirit, then that's them. You don't have to cry, or fall out. However He touches you, you should just know that He did. You don't have to be dramatic and "prove it" per say, to everyone else.
If you know u were touched then, that's all the proof you need.
God Bless.

I am not surewhat they were doing. It sounds almost as if the petecotal church has become. Oh I have forgotten the word used to describe tha tpe of a situation, I hate that when I cannot remember the word I want. But it explains that the congragation gets all hyped up and jumping around waving banners and yelling during the service. In the one place tha God talks about speaking in tongus He says it muast be orderly and fitting. Anyway I am sorry for your experience. Pray to the LOrd I have total faith that He will answer you on this one to send you the answer of comfort that you need.

Girl stop it its not something you just do. ITS A GIFT!!! The gift of the holy spirit is when your able to speak in tongues, as well as have translation of its meaning . Its a powerful gift but everyone you see jumping up in down and shouting or mock speaking in church isn't always the real deal. You have to fast, pray and seek god for this and then only when your true to yourself and his word will the gift come to pass. All Christians seek to be closer to Christ but we have to pray for the anointing in order to filled with the holy spirit.

Speaking in tongues publicly, without the presence of an interpreter, and uncontrollable outbursts of emotion are NOT signs of the Holy Spirit at work. Your friend's church is not behaving properly. They are engaging in a psychological fraud cloaked in spiritual terms. I wouldn't continue attending that church.

They're the ones who should be concerned: how do they dare to claim monopoly over the mysteries of life? If after that experience you remain friends with the person who took you to this church, then God's spirit is in you more alive than the ones putting up a show.

Speaking in tongues is a gift you receive from the holy spirit when you become a Christian. And not everyone gets that specific gift, so not everyone experiences it

I went to a Pentacostal Church once (and only once) where the minister started crying when talking about all the poor people he wanted to help. They passed the collection plate after this. When he looked up, his makeup (yes, makeup) wasn't even smudged. Later, I saw him drive away in a Beemer. Don't believe everything you see at these "shows"

It's basically acting.
There is nothing "spiritual" about "speaking in tongues" it's just an opportunity for adults to act like morons and lie for thier cult.
Nothing more.

If you speak in TONGUES and I cant understand you Then you have wasted my TIME...........This tongues thing.....is suppose to be the Holy Spirit........But in the BIBLE it says that when this happens if you cant understand then is was worth nothing
The apostles spoke in tongues but each one spoke in a language that the people in the temple could understand.......not gibberish
