when i turned on my laptop this morning all the icons on my desk top had moved into 2 columns on the left. I can't understand why it did this and am concerned that it has some sort of malware issue.
I have norton net security 2006 fully updated and it isn't identifying anything. I am on XP home.
any ideas?

right click the mouse on a spot on the desktop and click on "arrange icons" and see if the "auto arrange" feature is selected. If somehow that got selected then it will line up all your icons on the desktop in rows/columns. If you want to move each icon to a place of your choosing, then de-select "auto arrange". If auto arrange was selected, then everytime you move an icon from the columns/rows, and release it, it will go to the end of the lined-up icons. Either way, don't worry about it, it is NOT something to be overly concerned about. Sometimes things happen once or twice only on a computer (for known or unknown reasons) and not again. If it happens enough to annoy me, then I fix it.! LOL (and sometimes if you have trouble starting the computer and it goes into "safe mode", it will automatically re-arrange, realign the icons because of the video settings being reset.)

Somehow the organise icons menu was changed. Right click on desktop and select the way you want to arrange the icons. Good luck!

The icons have realigned, you normally do this by right clicking on your desktop and choose 'arrange icons by' Its possible that they reset when you turned your pc off and on again later. No need to worry, its not malware.

Some games which use alot of video mem can re-order the icons on the desk top after leaving the game. I think half life did it on mine.

that's pretty freaky, as long as they're not gone. Do a full scan check up with norton to make sure.
