am i the only one that realizes that you're being sarcastic? lighten up everybody. it's just another example of how Christianity sucks and it has nothing to do with God.

In the middle ages peasants could not read. The Bible would have had no meaning for them. Making it available to all only brought about so many different interpretations which divided the Church. Not exactly what Christ had planned. As to their souls you would have to ask God. Only He can read a human soul. Are you saying that illiterate people can not go to heaven. It is not ones educational level that counts.

Wrong! If that were the case then God would not be a merciful God; and we know that He is merciful.
God always provides a way for His Word to get to the people. This is just my theory, I'm sure behind closed doors the peasants found a way to read the Word of God. Just like the slaves were not permitted to read, but we know through out history, a way was made for them to learn to read.
If a person desires something enough, there is nothing that can deter them from fulfilling that passion. What bothers me about us today, we take the Word of God for granted and have it at our finger tips, but allow dust to collect on its covers Take care.

Current and past interpretation has been that you are supposed to remain ignorant and do what you are told. The priest were the only ones who had retained the art of reading and writing and so were the custodians of the Word. They spread the word at service to the masses who then knew the word and so were saved from hell as long as they obeyed the priest.

Translation of the Bible into English (or any other language than Latin) was punishable by death. This was to allow the religious leaders to maintain their power, wealth and prestige by being the only ones who (supposedly) had the authority and word of their god.
Naturally there is no god so no-one goes to 'heaven' or 'hell' - these are just imaginary places. All those peasants simply no longer exist.

In the middle ages, and up until about 80 years ago, almost nobody could read at all!
People got saved by practicing the true faith, just as it had been done for centuries before, and as it's being done today, in the Catholic church, the church that Jesus personally founded, and that he promised to guide and to protect until the end of time.

It was a different belief system. They learned from the church art and worshipped. They didn't know what the hell the priest was saying because it was in latin, but it was believed if they attended mask and asked forgiveness they'd be fine.

Another A**sshole question!!!!!!!!! Look, stupid... If you believe that you're dumber than a box of rocks!! Do you think that God gives a sh**it whether or not some poor peasant ever read the bible? God can see into each of our hearts, and judges us accordingly. HE hopefully has looked into yours and found you wanting!!
