They performed a scientific experiment on this recently, actually. They chose a certain number of patients who were just about to have surgery performed on them. Before the surgery, they prayed for them. The idea was to see how prayer would effect their overall outcome. As it turns out, the people who received the prayers actually turned out WORSE overall with their surgeries. I'm not making any of that up; it was on the McLaughlin Group, a PBS show.
So, no, it doesn't work. Like George Carlin once said, it's like praying to Joe Pesci: Sometimes you'll get what you want, sometimes you won't, but in the end, your odds will always be 50/50.

Every prayer is answered - I have had so many that I fully believe in it. But - it is not my will, but God's, and his timing (both of which are perfect). I can look back and see His hand in answer to every prayer. It also strnethens me - spending time with God brings his love into my heart and changes me, and often how I look at something ( which is often what he wants). And praying with others is amazing.
I have to accept God's plan - and that he is always there. And is always better for me, wiser, than what I would want or do.
That is also a big part og how I know God exists - his wisdom and love in answer to prayer. It is a precious gift we have that so many do not use.
God Bless

There are two answers:
(1) If you are praying for yourself, to gain spiritual peace and strength, prayer can be extremely effective. It seems that it brings similar effects as meditation.
(2) Intercessory prayer does not seem to offer much benefit. The results of a double blind study that looked at intercessory prayer's results with health care showed that those who were prayed for actually fared a bit worse than those who were not prayed for. (Both groups were told that others were praying for them, but only one group was "treated" with intercessory prayer.) A story about this study is referenced below.

Yes it works, but what do we mean by does it work? Prayer is a time to talk to the Father. You pray to give praise and to talk, its a two way conversation. If its just a wish list of things you want then it'd be easier and just as useful to write a letter to Santa

It can because it uses your own creativity visualization talents. It depends on how the "prayer" is said. For instance, if you pray for someone to get well, that's a spell because you personally don't know if that is the best for their eternal soul.
Most prayer is a substitution for laziness though. People are asking invisible dieities to take care of stuff they are too lazy to get involved with fixing themselves.

When I was 12 years old I had been living a horrible life. I prayed..asking God to give me something to look forward to. I said I will wait till I am 15. Thoughts of suicide were constant.
When I turned 15..I met my husband...We have had a very good life...married 29 years now. God answered my Prayers

yes they do, although you should prey with a clean and pure mind, there is way's of purifying your senses and also a way to learn how to be able to achieved a level of purification that in your mind, can help you to concentrate in the way you should direct you self to talk to God, and prey to Jesus or vice verse, For Christianity there is the church. For catholics there is the church also, and the meanings and significance of the mass, and the religious services as well than the consecration of the bread and wine, that its only of the practices off and in the Catholic church. I wanted to pinpoint this out to you, because Christianity (specially in the U.S. has and most all others denomination not acceptances of this practices. although, this was a personal request from Jesus, to his apostles, before the end of the last supper, also, Mormons have a similar costume, though they drink water instead. but isn't just jumping and dancing, as many Christians have perceived their self ables to be posses by spirits, that i don't know if they are always good spirits, that its my doubt about the practices of different denominations or not denomination at all, that is why i see my self as Catholic, as well Christian.

No. The only time anyone ever gets what they pray for is when it would have happened anway, whether they prayed or not. The reason prayer doesn't work is that gods are just imaginary.

Absolutely not! Probably the only benefit from prayer is that it can make the person praying feel better. Other than that it does absolutely nothing.
