I am a vet nurse and can tell you that it is because she has FLEAS. Make an appointment at your vet and buy some decent flea treatment. I'm guessing it is worse over her bottom area and at the base of her tail. Very itchy and uncomfortable for her - see a vet asap!

As a tamed ferral cat it makes no difference unless his fur is especialy thick, all cats moult in the summer - it's perfectly normal, imagine walking around in a fur coat yourself all summer, you'd soon get hot!! Just groom him regularly and keep any knots to a minimum, if he scratching as well he might need to be de-flead, use frontline or similar it's brilliant!

He's simply shedding his winter coat so that he doesn't overheat in the summer. All animals do it - nothing at all to worry about unless he's actually going bald in which case consult a vet to be on the safe side.

he is moulting, ie losing his winter coat which he will regrow as the days become darker and colder. Groom him every day to help prevent furballs - cats lick themselves clean and the hair is swallowed. It collects into a bolus and the cat sicks it up. Yuk.
And be prepared to hoover the house more.

You gotta be kidding me suz. Shedding in all cats is caused by fleas? Shedding is normal for cats in summer !

It may just be his usual moult, you need to comb him every day; but if it's leaving a bald patch it's a flea allergy and he needs to see the vet.

Shedding is normal for dogs and cats. It is their way of adapting to the change in climate.

its just the heat. but if he's getting bald patches hes either stressed or ill and needs a vet. if he's just losing hair generally its just the summer. brush him loads and vaccum alot!

sounds like he's moulting, i think moulting is when they kinda shed their winter coat, it keeps them cool in the summer.
