My dog gets diarrea from dog food with chicken. I want to keep him on dry dog food. Could anyone reccoment any? When he gets it i put him on beef and rice, and this seems to do the trick. I tried chicken and rice but that makes it worse.

One of the best foods on the markets for dogs with allergies to food ingredients is CALIFORNIA NATURAL (www.naturapet.com). It is the ONLY food on the market that uses only a few ingredients to ensure that your dog is not being exposed to potential allergens. here are the ingredients of the Lamb and Rice diet as well as the Herring and Sweet Potatoe diet.

Lamb:
Lamb Meal
Ground Brown Rice
Ground White Rice
Sunflower Oil
Taurine
Vitamins/Minerals
Beta Carotene

Herring:
Herring
Barley
Oatmeal/Rolled Oats
Herring Meal
Herring Oil
Sweet Potatoes
Sunflower Oil
Natural Flavors
Vitamin E
Vitamins/Minerals
Rosemary Extract

These two foods are the absolute BEST foods for dogs with allergies (especially) the Lamb because of their limited ingredients.

Just to show you and the others that posted how BAD foods like Iams and Purina are, here are there versions of the Lamb and Rice Diet. Compare for yourself and you will see that California Natural is BY FAR superior.

Purina One Lamb and Rice:
Lamb (good but the first ingredient should be lamb MEAL)
Brewers rice (bad)
oat meal (good)
corn gluten meal (bad)
poultry by-product meal (Should NOT be in pet food ESPECIALLY a lamb and rice food)
whole grain corn (bad)
animal fat (bad)
non-fat yogurt (okay)
animal digest (bad)
malted barley (bad)
flour (bad)
salt (bad)

Iams:
Lamb Meal (good)
Brewers Rice (bad)
Corn Meal (bad)
Ground Whole Grain Sorghum (bad)
Ground Whole Grain Barley (good)
Chicken Meal (good but should NOT be in a Lamb and Rice diet)
Animal Fat (bad)
Fish Meal (good but should NOT be in a Lamb and Rice diet)
Dried Egg Product (bad)
Dried Beet Pulp (bad)

Iams and Purina are such a low quality compared to California Natural. If you truly want you dog to be healthy, you need to find something without chicken in it AND something that is good quality....not just marketed that way.

PS....don't feed your dog beef. Dogs don't digest beef very well so it goes in one end and out the other with very little nutrion actually absorbed into the body.

Try a lamb and rice food, like Iams. Most likely your dog has an allergy to the chicken so don't give that at all anymore. Definately try the Iams lamb and rice, it is all my "kids" will eat.

Please don't feed your dog Iams or Science Diet. This is extremely poor quality kibbles and you may as well be giving your dog just plain corn (since that's the number 1 ingredient in most of these foods). Very VERY unhealthy kibbles here.

It's odd your dog is allergic to chicken. It's usually one of the other "why would this be in the food" ingredients that causes a dog (or cat) to become ill.

But I will definately suggest switching to a lamb based food. Try Maximmum, from Walmart, if you don't have a pet store near you. Maximmum has a lamb formula and it's number one ingredient is .......go figure.........LAMB!

If your dog has allergies, you want a food with no or few grains. Anything you can buy at walmart or the store is probably crappy. You'll want something available at pet stores. Good brands include Wellness, Canidae (my dog loves this one, and they have a lamb formula).

Make sure the first 5 ingredients are meat, and the first 3 shouldn't have the word "meal" in them. Good luck!

Try Science Diet. Thats what my vet reccomends and the dogs seem to love it. You could also try Iams or Eukanuba.
