If you really want diversity shouldn't all the other races from all the other countries have information printed in their language on everything so that it's fair to everyone not just the spanish people only ,who get the break? I think you have to realize you are not in Mexico any more the country forced you out why do you want hold on to it as if it's something good and meaningful? Your are in a new country and you have to adjust to it and desire to be part of it and do your part. When you have millions of people who want learn the language they does nothing but set up barriers and you don't get everything out of America you could. I think the girl on 30 days with an illegal proved that to assimilate to American culture she had to adapt and change she stop being a full time citizen of Mexico and became a full time citizen of this country her efforts paid off and she didn't have to abandon heritage she understands she is illegal but showed to improve in life you have to make choices that benefit your life. The more you try to become part of America the more success you will have.Otherwise you haven't really accomplished a whole lot except go to a better level of poverty

Foods from other places are part of the "American culture", but are not "American food". You don't have to eat Spam sandwiches -- most Americans don't, either -- but you might sample New England Boiled Dinner, for example, To love enchiladas is not to become Mexican. To "assimilate", speak English, stop being sarcastic, and do your own thing. Americans love cultural differences (though some Americans are bigoted, to the shame and embarrassment of the rest of us).

I agree that it is, expecially because the Americanized Mexican Chinese and Italian foods are so very different from the food served at those countries! I have even seen signs saying "authentic Mexican food" on restaurants owned by Mexicans, but it is not. They have chimichangas with rice, beans sour cream, guacamole (made of avacados and tomatoes) and cheese drenching it all. I have never been to a place in Mexico that serves food like that, and I have been to 8 different Mexican states!

What are you talking about? When I say assimilate, I mean adopt our cultural values, put our nation above all others, be an American for crying out loud. I would say those foods are all part of the American culture, because of how variied the American culture is. We have people from all nationalities here.

Of course they are. What is not part of the American culture is giving land to those governments so they can tax us and govern us.

The different foods, just like the different cultures make up a race of people known as Americans, and thats a good thing. Don't listen to the haters.

Ola, I think people who want you to assimilate are probably not referring to the menu. I think they want to to enter the country legally, get a job, pay taxes, learn English, respect the laws of the country. I think perhaps they do not want you to join gangs, rob people, burn cities, change the language, demand the rights of citizens if you are not a citizen, go on welfare, mule in drugs, and bankrupt taxpayers. And a spam sandwich is better with a little salsa.

American culture is very diverse. people from other countries are invited to give us a view of their cultures. It enrichens the USA! You already asked this question. To assimilate:

**Learn English- (to converse with other Americans) people come from countries of many different languages, Americans can't be expected to learn all of them, they must learn English.
** Be pro-American, not anti-American- give your loyalty to the USA (not the country you left)
**Accept American traditions and culture, even if you don't participate or believe in them.
**speak you own language with your families and others who speak the same, celebrate your own traditions and ceremonies, but don't criticize Americans rights to celebrate ours.
**Don't fly your former country's flag in protest of the USA
** Respect our country, flag, anthem, leaders, citizens and our LAWS.
**Accept others in our country no matter where THEY came from. People come here from every where.

I think all three are now ingrained into American culture. Although many of the cuisines have been Americanized.
