Dogs can perceive differences in skin tone. If your dog is around more light skinned people, he or she will assume that is what humans are supposed to look like. When around a dark skinned person, it just doesn't look right to the dog, making him or her bark or growl. This is more predominant if you live in a community with just a few dark skinned people.

Also, dogs chase police men and postal workers because they just don't look right to dogs, either. These service workers usually carry things around their waist, making them look different then a "normal human" would, at least to a dog.

Dogs can pick up on certain things - fear, dislike, etc. They can often pick up on other things as well - like someone who shouldn't be trusted. Some dogs can pick up on health issues and their actions seem mean until you realize that they are trying to tell you something.

In this case, it could be the dog was previously abused or teased by a black person and now is "racist". This happend to a dog I adopted. It had been previously abused by a black man and afterwards only liked white or light skin women - no men, no blacks, and especially no black men. With a lot of love, attention, and work, it eventually would tolerate them, but never did learn to trust those groups again. I have no idea exactly what was done to the dog before I got him, but I think people who instill that much fear in an animal should be jailed!

That is a very unintelligent question not to mention that it could also been seen as being extremely racist OR extremely stupid.
The answer however is NO.
If a dog reacts with one colour of person than another I think it is due to what the owner is feeling and the dog picks up on the negative instincts. That is - A racist emotional cloud of airborne scents the human is releasing and the fog can easily smell.
Otherwise I can't think a dog would give a damn. That is - NOT racist in nature.

I don't think they r racist. Dogs somehow know when a person is just plain bad. They sense these things. They also sense fear in people. Did u'r dog have a previous owner that may have mistreated him/her? That's also a possibility. My German Shepperd had been mistreated before we got him. He did not like men period. He would growl and snap at my sons teenage friends when they came over. He has calmed down alot since we first got him. He's come to realize that he would never be mistreated in our home. Also, if u'r dog stays outside a lot, people that walk by may be teasing him/her. There r lots of reasons why animals do what they do. Work w/ him/her and show u'r dog that not all people r bad. It will take time. If u have black friends, try having them give u'r dog treats. I hope this helps.

My boyfriends German Shepard is racist against blacks for some reason. When she sees a black person she goes crazy and barks and wants to kill them. I do not know why. She is fine with any other color person. It's weird.

Your question is not a sad and telling question. Yes the dog does pick up vibes off of you. But dogs also do things on their own. What if you don't even know that your are driving past a black person and your dog starts barking. I would like to know how you would be giving off vibes then.

Everyone on here telling you that you are stupid and unintelligent and racist are wrong. It is a good question to ask.
Also, dogs are not colorblind, they just do not see all the colors like we do. Who cares what all those other people are saying.

It's true

What kind of dog do you have?

Cesar Millan teaches that, in order to properly fulfill both our dogs and ourselves, we need to become our canine's calm, assertive pack leaders. A dog that doesn't trust its human to be a good pack leader becomes unbalanced and often exhibits unwanted or anti-social behaviors. Cesar does not "train" dogs in the sense of teaching them commands like "sit, stay, come, heel," - he rehabilitates unbalanced dogs and helps "re-train" their owners to better understand how to see the world through a dog's eyes.

Cesar counsels people to calmly, assertively, and consistently give their dogs rules, boundaries and limitations to establish themselves as solid pack leaders and to help correct and control unwanted behavior. He doesn't believe in "quick fixes," even though changing some behaviors can appear to happen in a relatively short period of time. None of those changes will "stick," however, unless the human acts consistently with his/her dog every day to keep unwanted behaviors from returning. In Cesar's opinion, no one should ever hit or yell at a dog to correct unwanted behavior.

In conclusion, dogs are color blind anyway and there reaction towards other people is caused by an experience, where there trained to do something or are teased or abused or are just not trained the right way to begin with. There could be many other reasons that your dog could be acting the way that it does. I would suggest to Ask The Dog Whisperer on his web site chat! For your dog pshychology

It is possible, however, it may not be something you are instilling in the dog. It may be a trait that he picked up from a previous owner, at a shelter, or on the street (if he was ever a stray). You would have to really know the dogs background from day one. But, you can train him to be friendly and submissive to everyone. Just work with him!! Happy Training!

i don,t know about being racist but i have a shepherd who barks everytime the neighbors(black kids) come to the door to play with my kids and even once they are in the house she growls around them but she is harmless and i think she smells something different or maybe they have hit her in the past or something ... i,ve been trying to figure this out for a while now but i have no worries about her aggression towards them cuz my dog is VERY well trained! plus i am always present.

wow...there are some pretty ridiculous people out there. Dogs are colorblind. It is a scientific fact. If these people are your friends you are probably not racist contrary to what others are accusing you of. You did not do this to your dog. That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. My dog is afraid of people wearing hats. I'm not a "hat-hater". The dog is probably frightened of a dark face because to the dog, it is different than yours and therefore scary. You need to reassure your dog and introduce strangers slowly. Especially if your dog is a rescue, some rescue's have had horrific lives before you got them

Go here for an awesome dog training program http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?F00O

Since it is obvious that you do not have a clue about obedience training, your services should be for free. You cannot train even an adult dog for 8 hours a day. About the most that can be done at any one time is 10 - 20 minutes and that is with an adult dog and not a puppy. The attention span on this baby is extremely short and training session should be no more than 10 minutes and twice a day. Additionally, there isn t going to be much learned if you will only be training for 5 days. Obedience training is cumulative and is done over a much longer period of at least several weeks to several months.
What you can charge is determined by your experience, reputation, and accomplishments and in a case like this, should also include guaranteed expectations. Just working with dogs over several years, is not the experience that is necessary to be a dog trainer. There are too many people who are putting that title to their name and fleecing the public. Don t be one of them.
