I am an eczema specialist. Treating eczema is a complex thing...you simply can't throw a cream at it and hope it goes away. You have to treat the underlying problems that are causing the rashes. You CAN control eczema, but you gotta understand it first.

If you would like, you can email me for detailed information on eczema care.

Hello:
This answer is in response to your question associated with the treatment of eczema.
Often times, people suffering with eczema also suffer with allergies, asthma and sensitive skin reactions.
There is no cure for eczema, however, as one gets older the flare-ups are often less intense in a lot of persons.
I treat quite a few people with eczema.
The first thing is make sure you keep your skin clean. I suggest bathing in oatmeal baths or using aveeno soap. When you get out of the shower/tub, pat your skin dry rather than wiping it dry.
Mild cases of eczema respond to hydrocortisone 1% cream that you can purchase over the counter. If that does not work, then I usually give my patients a prescription for something called Triamcinolone 0.1% cream. It is a steroid cream that is stronger than HC 1%. That usually does the trick in most of my patients.
I have also suggested to some of my patients to grow aloe at home and rub the juices on the affected areas a few times per day during a flare up. A large number of my patients swear by this homeopathic treatment except for the pediatric patients whose parents do not want naturopathic remedies and insist on a steroid cream. You would think it would be just the opposite. Anyway, other than using steroid creams and the other methods that I mentioned above, there really isn't much else you can do. Eczema, like I said is not curable (not yet anyway!).
I hope this helped answer your question and alleviate some of your concerns.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

There are several different types and subtypes of eczema; therefore there are several different treatments.

Here is a website dedicated to providing comprehensive information to patients and all of their content has been reviewed by an independent board of medical advisors to ensure that their information is accurate.

I think you’ll find this site very helpful. Have a great day and good luck. =)

Food Allergies is a big cause. My son has eczema and it is caused from allergies. It will go away when they get older most likely. I have been used Aveeno moisture cream. Works great. I haven't seen a break out since.
