Completely normal. I have three sons. They have all been fascinated by the equipment in their pants, especially when in the tub. Who could ignore all the fun possibilities?

Grasping one's privates is also a standard anxiety habit in little children; possibly checking to make sure everything is still there? :)

My only goal is to teach them to avoid inappropriate grasping in public. My 8yo has no problem with propriety anymore, but my 5-in-three-days little guy is still working on it. If we make it through Christmas choir season each year without any front-row groping, we count ourselves blessed...

And nursing in front of younger siblings is as natural as you want it to be. Your son makes no link between your breasts and his privates at this point. Letting him see you care for the baby is a great way to promote bonding between the two.

Perfectly normal. Young children are always curious about their bodies at the youngest ages. They want to explore their bodies and know whats going on. However they lack the knowledge that it's inappropriate to do such in public, and in the presence of others.

Don't be too mad. Young children don't always know what it means and why it's wrong to do in front of others.

Its normal, hes just curious. He doesn't know what it means, it just feels different to him. Don't issue it as a problem, you could cause him to become uncomfortable, and self concious. The only time you really would need to speak to him about it is if he were doing it in public. Its just a phase hes just discovering his body.

Do not be concerned about him seeing you nurse your newborn. Children need to learn how our bodies work. His self-examination is his discovery of how we are different and completely natural.

I don't think it is imitation.... just like when their between two months and eight months... and they see their feet or their hands for the first time.

but do explain to your four and a half year old about the nursing, just because they are little-- does not mean they do not understand.

Your child needs an exorcism, now. Either that or tape his hands to his side when he's in the shower. There is never an excuse for self abuse.

very normal. All children check out their bodies. There is no confusion with this child, just healthy exploring

It's very normal for kids this age to explore their bodies.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with you nursing.
