Ok unfortunately I am not able to make it with friends this year on their Europe trip but they asked if I wanted them to pick me up anything (of course they get compensated) so my question is to those who hvae traveled to one of the above mentioned city, what sort of really nice gift indigenous to that city less than $50 USD should I get? Please let me know asap. (No perishable goods).

I could tell you about Barcelona.
Ask your friends to bring you for a small souvenir with Gaudi arcitecture or mosaic. It could be magnet, plate, miniature statue of lizard or whatever else, but you will enjoy it!
Food is also great: olives, vine, oil....Mmmmm
