My yard hads tons of them. The squirrels knock them down all the time. When I noticed he was eating the pinecones, I notice he ate less of his own dog food. They almost seem like crack for dogs, because if there is one near and he can't get it, he will wine, and bark until I throw it away. I don't want to keep him chained up, but If I let him loose, all he wants is pine cones.

Perhaps he needs more fibre in his diet! Or maybe he's got Pica, that thing that pregnant women sometimes get. It's a need for certain minerals that they don't have in their diet. The vet might be able to tell you.

Well, prevention is the best option. I know it's hard in this case, but could you ask your neighbors to throw the socks away in a more secure fashion or in another spot? Can you keep your dog fenced or leashed so that he cannot access the socks? Otherwise, the only thing to do would be keep the dog otherwise occupied. Give him more exercise so he isn't bored and looking for trouble. Give him other things to chew on and play with. It's very hard to break a habit once it has been formed, and prevention is usually the best option.

bless, he sounds like a little boy. Check with your vet but its probably a little because they are like balls and a little because they are good to crunch. I've had dogs most of my life and I've never heard this as being dangerous. People generally want what they can't have and animals are often the same (you know how if you don't let you dog on the sofa you can always tell that he's been on it whilst you aren't there - just because he can!). Give your vet a ring, but I wouldn't worry, bet his teeth are really really clean!

the pinecones probably do hurt him
cause they might give him splinters in his stomach or intestines or tounge
you should probbly put a fence around te area where the pinecones fall so he doesn't get to them
and then give him a treat for being good then he will forget the pinecones

Acorns and pine cones can cause choking or intestinal blockage if ingested. Try not to put water, food dishes under trees where there are pine cones or acorns.

Sorry but that is funny...lol
I don't think the pinecones can really hurt him.....and are you sure he actually eats them?
If you are that concerned....just ask your vet.....they should be able to answer that question for you.

It probably won't hurt him. I have a border collie mix and she eats pecans out of my back yard(shell and all) and it has never done anything to her.
