The "books" of the Bible were actually several kinds of writing. Paul's letters were mostly written to specific churches, the exceptions being Philemon, and Timothy I & II. James wrote to a wider assembly. Hebrews was written to quell a disagreement about the Jewish law and Christian freedom. As to the gospels they were written for different groups. Matthew for Jewish believers, Mark for new believers and so forth.

The time span runs from about 45AD to 90AD. The order they were written is not the order they are in the New Testament. Paul's letter to the Romans predates all the others for example

People assume that because these books were written "shortly" after the life of christ that they are very accurate. When they say "shortly" after, they just mean in comparison to the 2000 years that has passed after that time.

Do some research about the year 1941. Determine the beliefs and cultural differences from that time to now. That was 65 years ago. Think about how much could have changed between the Crucifixion of jesus and the end of the bible. By the time it was all compiled into ONE book that VERY few people actually had access to, over three hundred years went by. More time than America has been in existence. Think about the differences between our current society and the culture of the original settlers of the North America. MORE time went by between christ and the "bible" than that.

When people take the time to study humanity and culture and the ways things change, they have a better understanding of religious evolution.

In many cases we don't know actual dates of when the new testament books were written. In some cases we get a pretty good idea. Luke was the best at defining time frames. John was the worst. Paul, at times wrote like a greek scholar and other times wrote like an insane person. I have often thought that some of the books attributed to Paul were forgeries.

There are no original copies of any of it in existence today.

Matthew was indeed the first book written. That occurred in the year 41.

The last book written was Revelation. That occurred in the year 96.
The other books are in between of course

it variety of feels that there have been conflicting comments as to the chronological order of the recent testomony Books. while they have been written, while they have been supposedly further to, and while they have been revealed. i think of how we study them now could be what the Lord had meant.
