poor thing, sounds terrible. don't know anything personally but have you check breed websites? some breeds suffer particular illnesses and if the vet isn't overly familiar with that breed they might miss it.
Good luck, I really hope you friends kitty is ok.

Could be a thyroid problem on top of allergies. Does the cat get allergy injections? Have vet do bloodwork. Get a second opinion. 2 heads are always better than one!
Good luck!
(PS Flat faced breeds tend to have more breathing problems than other pets)
Does owner smoke, light incense, or candles?

That sounds excatly the same as what happened to my cat. My cat was alergic to the food we bought her. We only bought it for her because she was out and the store did not have her regular food there. She started itching and itching and dug her hair out. There were big patches of hair she ripped out. The area she itched and scratched at was red and it would bleed. She had about five to seven patched about 2-3 inches in diameter. When we took her to the vet she told us it was a food alergy. So we went and got her the right food that we had always fed her and her patched healed up and she is fine now.
Did your friend change the cats food a year ago when this started happening? Find it out, is could be the food she is eating.

I know this will sound strange, but I swear it's true. My Mom had a cat that had a hormonal imbalance. It lost alot of hair, lost a lot of weight, and was very near death. Maybe you could have your friend ask the vet to check the cat for that. I don't remember how many shots my Mom's cat got, but it came through and lived a few more years after that.

Sounds like a food allergy to me. What does your friend feed her cat?? Some animal foods are really high in corn (look at the ingredients on the bag) and this can cause problems in quite a few animals. I have a dog that developed a corn allergy . i changed her feed and she's fine now. Also, don't rule out the possibity of diabetes.

Poor kitty!
Have you found out which allergies she has? What about the food- is there something wrong there? What about worms? I find it difficult to believe the vet wouldn't have looked at that.
Good luck!

poor kitty,
did you make sure your cat was tested for kitty leukemia?
have you tried changing your cleaning chemicals
did your kitty eat a house plant?
there are many things it can be that cant be detected. dont give up on her, and do try another vet.

sounds like cat may have allergies...but I am not a vet. Have your friend take it to another vet if she doesn't trust her vet

My best advice to your friend.....change vets....get a second opinion.
I had a problem like that before with my boxer....changing vets was all it took to get my dog healthy again.

checked out hypothyroidism yet? It is rare in cats so that maybe why you can't find it.
check http://www.nzymes.com/Articles/cat_skin-hair_problems.htm#HAIRLOSSDISORDERS
also the orange red hair I think is normal in hymalayans.
