Monitorhead's dyson,
"Have more tears been shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones?"

What a question! A great question.

This is the kind of question that, I hope many people pay attention to.

The literal answer is that it depends on the person. One person has their heart so locked into the hope of what they are praying about. When the answer to their prayer is realized, the response is to shed tears of Joy.

One life can be intertwined with much sorrow, while another has little. Those that need and know that it's God's nature to supply for His children all their needs are indeed blessed with that sight. They know where the answer to their needs are, and they pursue them.

To have so many unanswered prayers is something of a compass; the first thing that unanswered prayers should provide.
The questions someone in the life of faith, I believe, should ask themselves is this:
1) Am I expecting realistically something that God said He would do?
2) Why am I asking God for whatever this is? Is it for personal glory. That is; am I trying for personal glory and not trying to prove God's word?
3) If I have a promise from God that I am reacting to, am I willing to hang my body on it? No matter what the circumstances are? If not, why am I being so impatient with God?

There are so many scriptures to point to on this subject. I will put some of them in the sources list.

No tears have been shed over an answered prayer because there is no god, therefore no one answering prayers. So, the onus then falls on most tears being shed for unanswered prayers.

Probably more over unanswered prayer, because most people only pray as a last resort. When their prayer is not answered right away, panic sets in quickly followed by anger, tears, desperation, sometimes violence and self-destruction. I have cried in both instances. When my prayers have been answered, such a weight is lifted the tears express my release.

I've never asked God for anything selfish (to my knowledge). I hardly ever even pray for myself. I know I have tons of people that pray for me daily. The only thing I may ask for myself is that He guide me through a difficult situation.

Now, that aside...I don't believe God answers prayers that He knows aren't the correct path for the individual asking. So, the answer to your question would have to be: "More tears have been shed over unanswered prayers".

I think it may be true that answered prayers cause more tears. First , let me say that I have come to believe that there may be validity in the statement "Be careful what you ask for, you just may get it". Sometimes we pray for things superficially and never dream of the long term effects of that request being granted, which may ultimately result in tears of frustration or grief. Then of course there are the tears of joy when an answered prayer results in the restoration of something thought lost. :)

Lots!

That's why Garth Brooks made millions with his song "Unanswered Prayers".

"....some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers!"

Yes, that's why it's important to be very specific and put much thought into what we ask for in our prayer requests. There is power in the Word. Be careful what comes out your mouth the universe is listening!

More tears are shed by those that believe that they should be able to completely understand all of God's purposes.

I don't cry in my shed. Usually either drink beer of work on the lawn mower. Prayer has happened there, paraphrased: "Oh God, I'm coming".
