It's interesting that he became the patron saint of Ireland, despite the fact that he has no Irish blood. He was a Briton, born in the North, well raised, and from a good family. He did not go to Ireland until after his ordination as a priest.

St. Patrick was born in 387 in Scotland. He was commissioned by Pope St. Celestine to evangelize Ireland. He spent 38 years in Ireland converting the whole country and died in 464. I would say his parents were Britons.
