‘666’ does not stand for Satan. This is a Hollywood interpretation of the Bible. The number is revealed in the context of the second beast in the 13th chapter of John's Apocalypse. The dragon of chapter 12 represents Satan. The first beast in chapter 13 represents the Roman emperor Nero and the second beast represents the emperor Domitian.
... for it is a number that stands for a person. His number is six hundred and sixty-six (Rev. 13:18).
The number stands for the person Caesar Nero, who name in Hebrew adds up to 666. Some Latin manuscripts read 616, which is the sum of the Latin letters for Nero's name.
Nero was most ruthless Roman emperor who persecuted the Church. Domitian, the second beast, also severely persecuted the Church and was seen as a prophet of the divine Nero. Some even thought that he was the resurrected Nero, thinking that his "mortal wound had been healed" (Rev. 13:12).
Also, in Hebrew the number seven represents perfection. That is why Jesus is described as "a lamb who seemed to have been slain. He had seven horns and seven eyes" (Rev. 5:6). The seven horns stand for his almighty power and the seven eyes represent the fullness of knowledge. Conversely, the number six in Hebrew signifies imperfection. The triple six designates Nero as the personification of imperfection; the height of imperfection; the opposite of perfection. The Hebrew language does not have words to denote degrees of value - like "good", "better", "best". That is why the angels sing "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty (Rev. 4:8), instead of just saying "holiest". So, just as God is holy, holy, holy; Nero is imperfect, imperfect, imperfect.
Mark,
The pope has no such title as "Vicar of the Son of God". Stop the bigotry.

The devil does not exist.
God is created by man.
"Satan" is a created figure to represent a bad, bad person with low morals.
To make it easier to sell "satan" to Christians, the Bible gives it "666" something like Branding. So "what does 666 represent?" Answer: Satan.

The number 666 derives from the Hebrews use of letters for numbers and applies in this case to the ranking within the political and regious movements of the time of Jesus. The basis of 666 is complex but anyone who wants to know more should read the relevant parts of Barbara Thiering's "Jesus of the Apocalypse". You will find 666 spelled out in words in the index.

Guy, the 666 is on the wild beast, a different entity.
Actually, it's on the image of the wild beast.
Sure, the goal is the same, to misled and led people into destruction, but it is something other.
Revelation 13:14-18 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)

A Public Domain Bible KJV at Zondervan Zondervan
14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Let me add 6 to 6, that's 12, and another 6 makes 18. You bring that to a one digit number and you have 9. 9 is the number of completion and wisdom, understanding and divinity. "Humanity versus Selfishness."
The number Six in numerology represents "Responsiblility versus Neglect." the polarity is neutral, the day is Friday, the Planet is Venus, and the 'pillars of society' religions have long feared Females and their inherent power. (Friday, named for the Norse Goddess Freya, is Female, as is Venus.) Now, putting three sixes- 666- mentioned in Revelation, but there has always been a Beast, in almost every pantheon's stories. Just as there has been a Divine Child in every pantheon's stories.
But Doreen Virtue, in her book Angel Numbers, says this about the number 666 (she channels Angels and says that our angels give us numerical signals, and I have a personal number my angels have been sending me for years.) so she says, of 666: "It's time to focus on Spirit to balance and heal your life. Tell Heaven about any fears you have concerning material supply. Be open to recieving help from both Humans and the Angels."
Much different from the naked whore riding a lion, watching Armaggedon happen.
Blessed Be.

Since there is no Satan, no number represents "him". The 666 was a mistranslation and is really 616. I think it's been proven that it meant Nero.

In the Book of Revelation the beast/anti-christ/man of sin is revealed shortly after the 6th seal/the 6th vial and the 6th trump. 666!
Curiously enough, if one does a number study on the words "Mark V" and converts them to pig latin, this also translates to 666.

The science of numerology differs from East to West, whereby a numerical value is assigned to each alphabet. I am aware of numbering system for Arabic and English alphabets. They differ a lot. You may study Cheiro's 'Book of Numbers'. He was a famous Palmist, for some details. Basically, they say every 'sound' is linked with a celetial sphere. Different combinations of sound ( the words or names) have the link with the universe beyond. There IS a good sound and a bad sound, for sure. In my knowledge this science is getting extinct. There is no Master alive ! Perhaps....
