Why is it that when someone asks question about breastfeeding an older baby or toddler you get a bunch of "answers" that say you should wean them. Please don't give weaning advice unless it's asked for. Most of these questions I'm referring to don't ask anything about weaning at all and neither the mother nor the baby is interested in hearing about it.

Sexual abuse???? Did you know that the human body was designed to digest milk sugar (lactose) only until the age of 5-6 years? That would mean that drinking milk is okay until that point. Worldwide average is 4.2 years! NOT sexual abuse!!

I noticed this yesterday too. If people are so uncomfortable with breastfeeding then I think they need to stop answering the breastfeeding questions!

People are just uncomfortable with it because it isn't the norm. I have 3 kids and breastfed all of them until about one year of age. I know that a some moms like to breastfeed for longer, and that's okay. My mother-in-law nursed her kids until they were 5. Personally I think that's weird, but not wrong. I definitely don't think it's sexual abuse. Pediatricians will tell you that it is best to nurse a baby for 1 year. Anything beyond that, I think, is more for emotional bonding and not for physical need. For the moms I've known that breastfed for long periods of time (2 yrs or longer) it seemed liked they needed to be needed more than the child needed the nourishment and closeness. Toddlers can get all the nourishment they need from food, and there are plenty of other ways to show love and nurturing. Just my opinion. But, you are right, around the world, people breastfeed much longer than in the US. Maybe it's just cultural. In many places men kiss each other on the cheeks in greeting - here that would be considered weird. Anyway, it's personal preference.

Well then why the Heck are people asking if it is ok. I breast fed but there is a point though that a child most learn to take care of them selves in a sence. And all of thoughs other countrys that everyone says they still breast feed, are, think about this, deprived countrys if the childs only mean of food is breast milk and it helps them live longer, then all be it, they should breast feed.

I am not try to seem rude but that is my opinion, and I have much respect for all the mothers that breast feed. And They should do it for as long as they need or want.

I didnt breat feed any of my children. One is lactose intollerant and the other is severly allergic to milk protein. I never breastfed to be honest because I never had guidance and was affraid of doing something wrong or harmful to my children. Looking back and going through what we went through with the products they went through and how so many things have hidden ingredients I think sometimes I should have. Ultimately its my belief that it doesnt matter of someone elses view. If your a mom and taking care of your babies thats what counts.

well i think if they come on hear asking if its ok to still be breast feeding their child they should expect those answers. for the ones who ask about feeding in public its a personal preference, it never has bothered me to see a mom nursing. what bothers me and i saw this was a question on breastfeeding. a mom was still solely breast feeding all 5 of her kids ages 8-years to 5 months. thats going over board. she have 6 or 7 questions. one she wanted to know about school for the 5year old. she wanted to breastfeed this child at lunch. she was reported and arrested. there comes a time when you need to wean. but thats up to the parent not a group of strangers . past age 2 and i say its sexual abuse

try researching the age that most countries woman stop breast feeding. it is not wrong to breast feed it is natural and what god intended woman to do. what would cave woman have done invent a bottle out of stone, no they breast fed, or even know a days woman in 3rd world counties have to do it with no option of bottle feeding. people really need to get out of this new age notion and relize that a womans body is made to breastfeed.
