Serendipity is right, this is an addiction. It can be just as powerful of an addiction as caffine, coccaine, or alcohol. I would recommend the following:
1) Move the PC out of your bedroom.
2) Set an alarm or timer next to the PC. When it goes off, get off the computer.
3) Slowly start to wean your way off the PC.
Start by setting the timer or alarm to stop at the exact time you do now. By simply ending when you usually do, this will give you your "fix" and also build the pattern of ending when the timer goes off.
The next week, cut off 30 minutes earlier. If that's too much, cut off 15 minutes earlier. If that's too much, cut of 5 minutes earlier. Whatever, but build yourself the discipline of getting off the PC when the alarm goes off.
Continue this trend of successfully ending with the alarm. If you find yourself starting to get angry at the alarm for going off too soon, then you know you took too big of a step and the next night increase your time until you can get done what you feel you need to get done.
If this does not lead you to success, then perhaps you could get help. You could seek help from clergy or counseling, but honestly I'd recommend going to an AA meeting. They're experts on handling addicitons. Honor them by speaking to someone before the meeting about your problem and issues and make sure that they would be okay with you attending to work on an addiction different than what they are addressing--trust me, they've gotten the question before. They might be able to direct you to someone who could help.
Also, if you want to stay away from pornography on the internet, there is a great link below to a church-based organization that helps people stay away from ****... they've got a catch name, too...

No, I have never experienced this. My first suggestion would be to get the computer "out of your room". Place your computer in a different room. A room that you can close the door to. You can treat your computer like a "work schedule". You can only use the computer during certain times, when you are done, you are done go home (ore leave the computer). Just like working. This is truly an addiction that is not good - it is effecting your personal life obviously. Unplug the computer each time, completely if you have to until you can become disciplined enough to only be on the computer say 1-hour a day. You will be more selective about what time and how you spend it.

I got my first computer while I was in the third grade. At that point, I didn't have the internet and my computer became boring after using it for so long. Also, my mom made me go to bed early because I was young.
But as I got older, I got the internet in the 6th grade. I began to spend more and more time at the computer. It became an obsession and I sacrificed having a social life for being on the computer. The fact that I was shy also contributed to this. Anyways, I would stay up very late and then get up early for school. I was miserable and slept a lot during class. My grades suffered but I couldn't help but get back on the computer everytime I came home.
I'm still spending way too much time on the computer. The internet is a gateway to the world and to information about the world. But after going to college, I've discovered that reading and chatting about life is not the same as actually experiencing it. You sacrifice way too much by spending your life at a computer. You lose your ability to operate in the real world and before you know it, you're a hermit. I know because this has happend to me.
The only thing I can say is that you need to find something to do with your life. Something that requires you to go out, to explore and to be in places you never thought you would be. You'll meet interesting characters along the way and life may just get better for you. It was tough for me but I eventually became as social as anyone else.
I hope this helps you.

Its a habit, you can change it ,but in actual fact you cant as you have nothing else better to do.Take the computer away from the bed side and you will be less likeky to chat. You are obviously a non working person and can afford to sleep during the day.You will grow out of it eventualy as you will not be able to do this if you are working.Remember that chating is in the mind over a computer.Did you know that a recent survey showed that 70 percent of the girls chatting on the internet were actualy not girls,--but old retired ladies that were bored.??--think about that on your next chat as it might be your grandmother(ha ha).--happy fiddling.

Sounds like you have developed a sort of addiction for your computer and substituted it for the real world. Move it out of your bedroom and set guidelines for how much time to be on it. At a certain time shut it off no matter what. Go to a counselor to discuss this , it is unhealthy to replace real interactions with people to the computer to such an extent. You are not alone, others have fallen to this problem too. There might even be a self help group for this.

Good lord, Man. You've got to re-prioritize. Insomnia is one thing but three years!
One suggestion: Do your PC stuff - and all activities not related to sleep - away from your bed...make bed the place strictly for zees.(And sex, of course.)
Most of us find activities that use daytime energy make a good night's sleep inevitable. A good bed partner (of the opposite sex!) is icing on the cake of life, too.
And, hey! If 'hetero' ain't your bag look back up there - I specified 'most of us'. Sweet dreams.

reckoning on the season, a heat tub is an mind-blowing thank you to take a seat down back. in case you may’t take a shower, you may supply your self a foot rubdown with slightly heat rubdown oil, sesame oil, or castor oil from a well-being nutrition shop. What became very efficient to me, particularly while my ideas became racing, became to lie in mattress and hear rest CDs, particularly those that comprise somebody speaking with relaxing music interior the historic past. a lot of those CDs are obtainable on eBay for terribly low fees. A efficient technique is to take a seat down back your physique one section at a time. so which you ought to take a seat down back your feet, your decrease legs, top legs, shifting up out of your decrease abdomen up on your chest, etc., etc. of direction, guided rest procedures can help, imagining your self interior the country, the sea coast, or in spite of is maximum soothing to you. in case you have stressful ideas or very own matters that run via your ideas once you're attempting to sleep, you may would desire to handle those matters first. that's truly useful to chat to a counselor or therapist approximately that. I advise fending off prescription napping pills till no longer the rest facilitates. There are herbs that are efficient for sleep, eg, valerian root, kava kava, chamomile, hops, hobby flower, skullcap. in case you get the genuine herbs, you're able to make teas out of them. otherwise get the herbs in pill style. you may attempt a single herb or organic mixtures. in all probability, valerian root and kava kava are the suitable. you additionally can attempt trytophan, 5-HTP and melatonin (a million-2 mg). i does not take melatonin for over a month. that's a hormone produced by the pineal gland. in case you're taking too plenty, your pineal gland ought to get "lazy" and bring much less melatonin certainly. life Extension and TwinLabs are in all probability the suitable manufacturers, in that order.

Addiction to a computer is a new mental condition and should be treated like any addiction by gradual withdrawal and determination.
