Is calling someone stupid an effective means for making them see your side of things? Would it not be more effective to try to live the best life you can, and ask questions when you honestly have them?

Occasionally.very occasionally. I try to give answers from the Christian side to honest inquiries from others in a non-preachy fashion. Christianity is a free will choice afterall.
The forum is over run with Rhetorical questions and insulting statements by non-believers. And cookie-cutter Bible blabber answers from the other side.

The rhetoric is merely meant to inflame the religious, and does not rate a response.
Responses of 10-15 Bible verses is meaningless to people who do not have the length of exposure and experience reading the book, and the context in which to interperet the point of the text.

Kindness is needed. It's an attribute to Christianity.

And when someone writes an attacking question, it's best to answer in a manner befitting a true Christian.

But yes, I am here to bring the light to others. I'm here to change the mind of others on this forum, and have part in saving them.

I'm also here to sharpen my skills.
There has been some good questions on this forum Guy. You have to admit that.

As Acts puts it, be persuasive, but should feelings get hard, let it go. It's their decision.

Acts 19:8-10 (King James Version)

8And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

9But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

10And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

1) People seldom change their minds about anything.

Example: President Bush still believes that a tribal society can be turned into a liberal democracy in just a few short years, despite an abundance of evidence to the contrary.

2) No. But stupid opinions deserve ridicule.

3) While I can never know how "effective" it may be, I can say that I have never done anything else.

PEople come here with questions about religion, when I know the answer or think I know the answer I try to help. As far as changing someone's mind? This isn't the proper forum for that sort of thing. I suppose it might rarely occur, but it wouldn't be something I would seek to do.

People that have no idea what they are talking about, no facts, make things up and expect you to believe them, HAVE to be called stupid, idiots, or morons. It's the only thing that gets their attention, they then (hopefully), rethink their question and become instantly wiser. There have been many questions removed by these people when shown how wrong they are. So yes, it would be more effective to give honest questions than rant and rave about something you're ignorant about.

I never try to change a oerson's mind, I just state my opinions and try to back them with fact the best I can. Discussion prompts thought. Thought prompts education. Education is a basic means of survival. The more enlightened and educated we are makes the world a better place for all of us.

i agree with Max on this one... which is a toughie for some...

if anyone is out to 'change minds' there's something terribly wrong there. i'm sure almost every religion encourages people to figure it out for themselves so that there's no questioning,
but if you think about it, alot of religions are against that too...

Nah, you won't change anyone's mind, theyre set in concrete.
Influence by example, definitely.
Some people would rather die though; the brainwashing has been so thorough.
