I thought there was a law passed that prohibited this practice, but I found a Service Station that is charging two different prices, one for cash and one for credit. I saw their price on the sign and stopped, then when I pressed credit, the price went up 6 cents per gal. Needless to say I was mad and I just left without filling up.

It is against credit card policy (Visa, MC etc) and it is illegal in some states.

The merchant cannot set a minimum charge or maximum charge or add fees or surcharges when using a credit card. They also cannot ask for ID if your card is signed, unless you are purchasing beer, cig's etc.

Report them to Visa or MC etc., whatever card you hold.
Also report them to your card provider and your states attorney general.

Actually, I would say that it is legal. Whenever you use your credit card, the credit card company does make the store pay a certain percentage of the sale to them. In this case the store is passing on that fee to the consumer. It is not considered common practice, but it is legal.

sure it quite is criminal for gas stations to charge greater for gas whilst using a credit card thAn whilst using funds. RE: Is it criminal for gas stations to charge greater for gas whilst using a credit card then whilst using funds? i don't comprehend if this relies upon the place the gas station is located, so i'm asking specially approximately gas stations in Suffolk County, long island, manhattan...does it rely on what city/village it quite is located...

Yes they can if the credit card price is the normal rate and the cash rate is lower, they advertise the cash price to get you in and then charge the " normal" price when you use a credit card, it's just another deceptive, advertising gimic, buyer beware.

It shouldn't. Call the credit card company up and have the gas station reported.

I thought this was illegal as well. Your best bet is to call your state Attorney General's office consumer protection office and ask them. Calling the FTC may also be in order.

Yeah, I think gas stations can no longer do this. I would contact FTC.
