well i have 2 akitas and i find the best food for them is food that is freshly cooked,i feed my akitas rice meat( bone meal, chicken and fish) i also give them sweet potatoes and raw carrots.
that diet works for me,oh and i only feed them once a day they are both a 16mths,a puppy will need to be fed about 3 times(small portions).
you can also consult your vet and the akita breeder

Akita's are a high energy breed requiring sufficient protein. Iams and Nutra-Max are excellent foods, but don't go for the highest protein - just sufficient. Vets usually recommend Science Diet foods for a very good reason. If your pet should develop a medical problem that requires a food change, it's already used to the food, therefore the change in formula is less dramatic. These foods control a lot of medical issues. Good Luck

Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. Nothing from a store (ie, Wal-mart, Kroger, etc.)..Name brand foods like Science Diet, or Nutro (sp),...with these, watch out for corn as a product, and wheat, some dogs are allergic to them. The best thing to do is avoid these...my Great Dane puppy is scratching himself Bald, and the only thing we have not done yet is to put him on a corn and wheat free dog food. He sees the vet again in a week, for a 2nd follow up on his condition! Most good dog food is only found at pet stores...some grain stores/feed stores carry some good brands...stay away from the "diamond" brand...I did not have luck with any of my dogs on it.
