Mmm, isn't it interesting and complex at the same time?

It is a lolt easier to make a small stron box, but, to make an aircraft that strong would end up with a huge brick that couldn''t Fly!

Plus, when a plane crashes, much of it is not destroyed, but, the 'sudden stop' totally destroys any soft contents(people, luggage, food)!

600 mph hitting an immoveable object is a whole lot of force!

Heh, probably because the black box is made from such a heavy material that a whole plain made from the same material would be too heavy for our current engine technology. Plus, there is the whole plane surrounding and protecting the box in case of an accident. Could we build a plane inside a plane?

why don't car manufacturers build their vehicles like tanks?

Have you ever seen a pic of a black box recovered from a plane wreck? they are usually mangled and do not look like a box. Ever wonder why there is more than on blackbox located throughout the plane? because they do get destroyed. and like everyone elses is saying, the plane would be too heavy if it was built like a blackbox.

The black boxes on board the planes, are double walled. The outside wall is to absorb the impact. The inner wall is designed to protect the data. These boxes don't always survive undamaged.

The same technology IS being used on Ships. A good number of cargo ships are using a double hull. Thus preventing oil spills on the open seas, if the outer hull is breached.

Simple, it would fall to the ground because it would weight too much. To add to this question: I have always wondered why it is that in this super technology world we live in, why are we still searching for a black box when all of that information can be transmitted instantly to the ground to a black box? Don't you ever wonder why they rely on a voice recorder when we have video that we could see what took place just before the crash? The whole black box thing is just a way for airlines to cover up their mistakes, and make it hard for anyone to prove anything.

No its not complex

if the whole plane is made the same way - it will tooooo heavy to fly

and even if you make a heavy plane with special engines, it will be exhorbitent expensive for passengers

The only reason it isn't damaged is that the whole plane is basically a cushon for it. The matterial is incredibly heavy and would be way too heavy and would not be fuel effeciant at all.

Ah, spend 5 minutes working out the engineering. Plane crashes from altitude are not survivable under virtually all circumstances

No-the plane would be too heavy to get off the ground.

Silly...interesting and complex - HA - take a physics class.

if the plane was made out of the same material it would be too heavy to get off the ground.. planes are made totally out of aluminum..including the rivets..cept for the engines ..wheels an instruments
