I suggest that your premise is a little off kilter.

If one seeks spiritual progress one needs nothing but emptiness.

Sexual desire is a carnal manifestation of a spiritual desire for God.

There are no useless sexual thoughts; only harmful sexual behavior.

When one recognizes that sex and God are divinely connected one may begin to empty them self of behavior that is unbecoming.

It is when one attempts, indeed struggles, to separate sex from God that sexual desire becomes more important than one's relationship with God.

When one realizes that sex is okay with God one is able to put sex into perspective.

Your understanding improves as you evolve, you will start to understand the spiritual path more. As you separate yourself from the material world more, you will invariably separate yourself from sexual desire. You still will think about it, but it will not cloud your judgment as when you were in your lesser evolved state. It becomes an object, you can either take it or leave it, rather than an instinctual desire. You will gain control over it.

PS: TEMPLE has a good take on it too, sex isn't against God's design. Everything in moderation.

seeing sex in a different way
not seeing sex as a primitive desire but a way to join two souls together for that moment
seeing sex as a bonding as a time to let all the physical , material thoughts go
perhaps looking into kundalini would be a good idea ?
