i was like that before,, i was insomniac actually.

first thing is take a shower, and drink milk before you go to bed. a mellow music could also help, but the best thing you need to do is relax your mind. one factor that keeps us up is when we think about lotssa stuff, though our eyes already wants to rest, but still your keep on thinking about some things then you really can't sleep.

I find that when nothing else works, I have to force myself to empty my mind of everything else and do one of the following things - either count repetitions of 1 - 4, 1 - 8, or 1 - 100; or when i breathe in to say 'sleep' to myself, over and over and over...

You will have to work out though what the underlying problem is - it might be that you need more exercise, a better routine, better diet, stop smoking - or that you need to resolve problems / stresses that are affecting your sleep.

Having said that, I find that I naturally tend to sleep less in the summer, especially on the lightest nights - I can go with only a few hours of sleep and be okay. So maybe it's a seasonal thing? In which case, instead of lying there trying to sleep, get up and write a novel or paint something or go for a walk!

When this happens to me, I refuse to lie there tossing and turning. I turn on the light and read for 15 minutes, or go to watch TV for 15 minutes. When I start to feel tired, I go back to bed. It usually works. Experiment. Nothing is worse than lying there, trying to get to sleep. It has to come easily.
The other thing you can do is eat an apple or even a sandwich.
A third thing: have a little radio on next to your ear so you can listen to chat-shows or music. This takes your mind off trying to get to sleep, and you will often fall asleep.
Good Luck.

If you speak a foreign language, count from 150 back to zero in that language. You might find your mind wandering, so concentrate. I rarely get to 105 before I'm asleep.
If not, count from 200 back to zero, taking off 2,3 or 4 numbers off each time (200, 196, 192 etc).
Or put a very low-wattage bulb in your bedside light, so you have to concentrate on the writing, and read a book.
All these methods work for me.

use aromatherapy oils.......but only those that are sedatives.....lavender, ylang ylang, cederwood, frankeincence and chamomile......they will calm u down and aid sleep......i usually get my oils on ebay but when u buy them make sure they are pure essential oils........get some base oil or non perfumed oil or cream......and 2 drops or any essential oil or a combination of oils (blend) with cream or base oil....small amount enough for a night......and self massage or if u have a partner get them to massage you.......feet back and chest...........u can even use the oils in a bath...and soak for 20mins at least.......3-4 drops of a essential oil or combination. also there a oil burner that u can add water too and a few drops of oil and the vapours release into the room during the night to aid sleep 2. also a damn good orgasm works wonders.....massage and orgasms what more do u want...ha goodluck

Put milk in a mug. Add 20ml of brandy.

Heat drink in a microwave for 60-90 seconds until warm.

Drink.

Make sure that you room is at a comfortable temperature - I like my pillows slightly cooler.

Put on some light music, or a talking book.

Lights out.

Try taking 2 tablets of Tylenol's "Simply Sleep" a half an hour before bedtime. Works good for me most of the time.

Watch cricket.... yawn........ so boring........ always makes me fall asleep!

Why not try a bit of yoga? meditating a hot bath before bed works well just to calm and relax your mind.....

Try not to do anything too taxing on the brain before bed... you'll never sleep and dont drink alcohol, although it sends you to sleep it is not restful, you'll wake up in the middle of the night and will still feel knackered in the morning!

Sweet dreams x
