This started back in the '60s when many people (hippies) where using drugs and protesting the war. This was very much against the US' social values at the time and the police were doing their best to stop the drug use and the protesting. The hippies started to call the police pigs. The term caught on. The police countered with "Pride, Integrity, and Guts".

Since the police are a tool of the government the term "pig" represents someone who is fat (our gov), filthy (our gov) and takes something from us, not because it EARNED it but only because it CAN-- whether by force or extortion (our gov). Use of the term "pig" was borne out of our sandbox days where name calling was the next resort when you're powerless to act against an authority (such as one's parents, a bully--or, in this case the police). It began in the sixties when police abuse & power became more visibly showcased on up and coming television--still in its infancy.

Probably started in the 1960's.
Some cops think Pigs stands for Pride, Integrity, Guts. Everyone else knows differently.

If you think about it, there really is a correlation. Pigs are filthy, so are cops. Pigs are short with curly hair, so are most cops (being of Irish descent). Pigs do not have a sense of community or values, so do most cops. Pigs are fat and don't care about their appearance, so do most cops. Pigs typically don't have testicles, so do most cops. Pigs run around and squeal pointlessly, so do most cops.

To me I think they should be called BROWN NOSES!! Because that all they are.. They go out and write tickets to get Browny points from there boss!!
