The cofounders of my choir designated this one quote to be our statement or whatever, and now I can't find it! It's something, "Woe be to those who but die with music still in them." Not exact wording of course, but something to do with people not expressing the music inside and dying with it still inside them. I feel embarrassed about asking my choir director, so i figured I'd ask here first.

Alas for those that never sing,
But die with all their music in them!

Perhaps you are thinking of the following quote generally attributed to Oliver Wendell Holmes, "Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside us." The meaning is that most people do not take the time, have the courage or understand how to reach down and release the beauty/art/music that lies in each of our souls. We spend so much time conforming and pursing false goals that we never take the time to let the "music" that lies within come out. When we grown old and face death, we realize this and are often bitter - so reach down, open up and let the music of our souls sing out. I hope this helps.

You've got it. It means, "Sing out! Don't worrry about how you sound so much. Your heart is full of music that is longing to escape, so open up and let it fly!" A bird that didn't sing would surely burst open.

I think it's a wonderful sentiment. I like to sing, but my daughters all tell me to quit when they're around. So I'll die with my music still in me (sad). Well, it's not really that bad, but you get the idea about the quotation!

Have fun with your singing!

"Woe be to those who die with music still in them" can refer to any unfulfilled potential that, once a person's dead, he or she can't use. This is basically a warning to live up to your full potential, to play all the music within you.

Its not really about music, its about life about people who dies too early and are not able to express or do what they want to do, thats why their "music" is still with them.
