You need photo/picture editing software. Open your picture and there should be a resize option in one of the edit menus, this will allow you to make the image physically smaller to fit onto email. You are best saving the resized image as a copy or under another name, so you don't lose the original sizing. If you need help I can be contacted on IM.

Starting from taking the picture with your digi cam, almost all the digi cams have option to select the pic size. If its too big selected by default, select a smaller size like 800x600 pic size.
After copying the picture in your pc, open it in a pic editing program like adobe photoshop. try to crop the picture so that unnecessary details are removed.
go to image and select image size, reduce it.
chenge its format from .jpeg to .gif (this will reduce its file size) try to make it interlaced so that the pic quality does not reduce. Alternately in the file option, select publish to web and it will be saved in same format with lesser file size.
Now you can upload, email or edit your pic.

If you have the photoshop Click file >save for web and adjust the settings in optimize tab
If you have a more simple but free program like Irfanview when you save the photo (a .jpg ) click file>save as >(select show option dialog) and choose a low quality for your photo (drag the slider from less)
Or try on the web for a program called Jpeg optimizer

Right click on picture/photo - then put mouse over `open with` and left click on `Microsoft Office picture manager`
Left click edit pictures and you have a choice to either re-size your picture/photo or crop the picture/photo.
In your case use the re-size picture/photo, and follow the easy steps.
If you are still unsure use the help box at the top of microsoft office picture manager.

If they are too big then I presume they are in bitmap format. You need to convert them to jpeg. Load Paint and open one of your pictures. Then do a Save As and in the Save As Type box make sure it says JPEG.
