I have a mini poodle who's really friendly NEVER bites is very hyper and playful and LOVES other animals. Recently I've asked my mother for a cat but she said it will be dangerous. Is this true? Though, she is very playful and might get too wild. Thanks

This is a very good question. The first thing I always like to ask is, do you walk your dog at least 30 minutes a day? Yes, you should be. All dogs need to be walked at least 30 minutes everyday, here's why, and it will lead to your question. All dogs are made of energy, some have more like yours than others. However, the only way to help your little one use up some of that energy is by taking her for a walk. Remember about packs of wild dogs, what do they do to get their food/water? They walk. This is a job for them, the reward for that job is the water or food they are seeking. Well, when humans adopted to care for dogs, we took most if not all of their daily walks away from them. It is our responsibility to walk our dogs, if we don't, then we are not ful-filling our dogs needs. Trust me she will love you for this, and some of that energy will be used up from the walk, and you will see that she may become calmer. This in turn will help you with bringing a kitten/cat into the house. Also, it is your responsibility to modify your dogs behavior with how she behaves with the cat. You are the one that tells her not to play too hard with it. How you ask? When your dog goes to jump around or on the cat, you intervene by making a claw with your hand and striking lightly at your dogs neck area, and while doing this make some sort of "tsk" sound. What you are doing here is taking on the pack leader roll. In a pack of dogs, the lead dog will lightly nip at another dog's throat/neck if it is doing something the pack leader does not want it to do. You are this dogs pack leader, or you should be. You must also be calm/assertive when correction your dog, and she needs to be calm/submissive. One thing to remember, when you begin this type of correction, you must, and I mean must do it exactly at the time your dog is doing the wrong behavior. All dogs live in the "now". If you waited even 2 minutes to make the correction, she would not have a clue as to why you are correcting her. This is why timing is so important. As soon as you see her going to bounce on the cat, that's when you correct her. Do not yell at her, smack her, nothing like this, she will only become more excited. Remember too, whatever energy you are feeling your dog will instantly pick up on it, even if your happy one second and immediately turn sad. Your dog will know instantly what you are feeling. They do this by the energy you give off and body positioning.

A dog and a cat in the same house is fine. You need to keep in mind that since the dog was there first, he/she is the dominant pet. Also the best introduction is done by keeping the animals seperated by a gate. This way at first they can smell each other and see each other but not harm one another. It may take a few weeks to get this new relationship to work, but it will. After both animals have chosen not to be to anxious around each other you can remove the gate. Always give both animals an area for a fast retreat if they don't want to socialize with the other at that time. Never force animals to get along.

If you get a kitten it shouldn't be a problem.
TAKE CARE to let your poodle know that he is still your number one pet and the kitten is not a replacement.
As long as poodle feels secure it will get on well with a kitten.
When first introducing the two don't leave them unsupervised but try to interfere as little as possible.
this might cause a "jealous" reaction in your dog.
REMEMBER: equal attention to both animals is the KEY to success.

cats and dogs can get along just fine, introduce them slowly and keep an eye on the situation. if the dog is hyper the cat will more than likely be afraid of the dog.

I think,.. because there are only few dogs who loves cat,... ur decision might be right or wrong,.. so make sure you make the right one,.. Sometimes its hard to know if a dog will accept a cat,.. test him on some cat noise, etceteras,.. if he reacts so bad,. then it says that if u had a cat around there it would really be a danger,..

If they are raised together, they will be fine. Just watch the poodle doesn't hurt the kitten at first.
