The media has blown it way out of proportion. Remember, a pandemic does not mean it WILL kill millions of people. Pandemic means it will have world-wide spread. Will it be a significant world-wide infectious disease? We do not know at this time. Does it bear watching? Yes. The world is overdue for a major influenza outbreak. We do know that any flu strain that is so deadly in fowl has the possibility of being deadly for humans. At this point, the virus has not shown the ability to easily be transmitted to humans. Part of the hype is to raise world awareness that this could be a severe problem. There are massive efforts to produce a vaccine before the virus mutates. But, there is also the possibility that if the virus does mutate and become more infective for humans...it could also lose some of the virulence and cause a less severe infection. One area that has been left out in the media coverage is that the fatality rate, even in extremely virulent flu strains, often depends on the quality of health care available. Poorer countries where larger portions of the population have no access to medical attention, have a higher degree of malnorurishment, and an overall lower health status, are much more at risk from any communicable disease. The primary treatment for flu is still supportive therapy....treatment of symptoms. So, much of this just depends on where you live.

It's still there and getting worse. It has spread to a few humans that have died from it.

It's just not in the news for now because there on some other "News of the Week".
That's the way the news goes, they hype something for a while they there on to the next hyped up news story.
Don't worry It will be back in the news when they run out of other stories there currently hyping!

It's another over blown, hyped disease that barely exists. Like SARS. Remember SARS? They said everyone was going to die from that too. Like two people did. These diseases basically effect people with poor living conditions, while living close to livestock and poultry. Their water and food sources are contaminated, so of course their going to contract diseases. Sheesh.

(I often wonder if these media inspired fear tactics have a more sinister point, maybe to support certain political parties, or drugmakers. hmmm?)
