Should we steal?

* Exodus 20:15 "Thou shalt not steal."
* Leviticus 19:13 "Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor, neither rob him."

vs

* Exodus 3:22 "And ye shall spoil the Egyptians."
* Exodus 12:35-36 "And they spoiled [plundered, NRSV] the Egyptians."
* Luke 19:29-34 "[Jesus] sent two of his disciples, Saying, Go ye into the village . . . ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him. . . . And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And they said, The Lord hath need of him."

I was taught as a child that when you take something without asking for it, that is stealing.

Matt 24:25, Mark 13:30, Luke 24:32 ". . . this generation shall not pass till all these things be done." Jesus was telling his disciples that "temple would be destroyed, wars, calamities, false prophets, and then he would appear above the cloud in triumph during the end days, before the death of his disciples." All these were reiterated in all the 3 gospels. But his disciples died 2000 years ago. End days did not happen, and Jesus lied about it or the gospel writers lied about it. Whatever the case, this is the greatest contradiction of all. Because Jesus is not a god otherwise how could a god be wrong about his own prophecy? Or the bible is just a book of lies! EDIT: Don't try to use sophistry on online forum. THIS GENERATION referred to the generation of his disciples, and there is no other meaning. Such denials once again proves that Christians lie just to justify their god.

The bible is so full of contradictions just for your kind of people. For others who have true spiritual insight , and read the Bible with the guide of the Holy Spirit, there is absolutely not one single contradiction. So, I think you should keep reading the Bible and keep on extracting as many contradictions as you can. At the end you shall discover that you have been strengthening those who believe and make them closer to their attachment to God 100 folds. I can only thank for a job well done.

the Isrealites had been slaves for hundreds of years, and the Egyptians were stealing from them in this way everyday of their lives. it was a balance of the scales.
as far as the colt for the Master, when they told the owner the Master had need of it, the owner obviously said okay. and probably got it back. it was a pretty short distance to where they went with the colt.
if you read the whole Book you'd know the answers to your questions.

after 12 years of catholic school i too noticed all sorts of things like that. however, it is important to keep in mind that the bible is a series of stories set as guidelines. the gospels contradict each other also - and blatently! they were written for specific sects of people to get them to believe. people who take the bible for fact are quite ignorant from the beginning. if you ask most priests they will tell you it is meant as a guide, not for facts. besides, anyone can make the bible say what they want to it say just by picking out excerpts here and there. because you know, men are superior, gays are evil, and 666 is the sign of the devil all according to the bible.

All fiction has the potential for contradiction, especially when there are multiple authors writing in different languages with different sets of values. Why anyone would use such a work of fiction like the bible, koran etc. to guide their lives is beyond logic.

Any book, or collection of books (which is what the Bible is) can be 'proven' to have contradictions if the quoted passages are taken out of context.

Matthew 27: 5 And he (Judas)... departed, and went and hanged himself.

Deuteronomy 15:17
...thou shalt do likewise.

Oh no, the Bible tells us to go hang ourselves! what'll we DO?
