You have to know what kind of look you would like to create? Its important... Do you wana create something wild? Something demure? Something that looks professional? Doing a Dye or Highlight depends alot on your skin colour. If you are tan,dark,then you should go for warm colours but if you are fair,you should go for cool colours. Choosing the right colour is important because it affects your overall appearance. If your hair is heavy and full,you can choose to dye but if your hair is less dense and fine,you can go for highlight to make it fuller and denser. Ask a good stylist for advice.

Normal: Red
Inbetween: Orange
Insane: Pink
I'm naturally red-headed, and I dyed my hair pink (requested cotton candy, but it came out deep, dark pink). It actually looks quite good in the sun's gleam after my roots have grown back in. Either way, be creative and have fun with it.
