Trust, is always something that has to be earned, never give it freely cause people will always abuse it. don't take it that you stupid, some people are just more trusting than others, but since you see how you end up hurt and in trouble, take a step back from that and don't allow yourself to be gullible

I suggest you be critical about the people you want to trust. Don't let anyone buy you with their hardluck or sorrowful stories. You seem to be an intelligent and open-minded person. You're not stupid, as your husband said. He would have just said it 'cos he was annoyed that someone took advantage of your good quality. You can continue to be generous and kind, but don't give too much away to anyone. If you really have to give a lot to someone, step back and really think about the character of the person or the matter before you make your decision.
Over time, this habit will become second nature to you.
Good Luck!

Trust is a crucial part of forming decent relationships.
Unfortunately, trusting indiscriminately, does not aid a person in forming decent relationships, as being selective is crucial to knowing how to deal with different types of person.
There are some people in this world who take pride in how cleverly they were able to take advantage of other people. To trust such a person is indeed very silly!
The question is working out who you can trust and who you can't!
Giving people a chance to show whether they are TRUSTWORTHY is important.
No point in being paranoid with everyone though is there!

The problem is in this day and age it is now naive to think that everyone is essentially good. Trust is something that now needs to be earned. Blindly trusting everyone isn't helpful and can leave you in potentially dangerous situations. Use common sense and only trust people as far as you have experience of them being trustworthy.

It's good that you can see the good in most people and want to believe they're true and honest.
But sadly, genuine people are few and far between. It does pay to be a bit cynical. That way you won't be taken for a ride too many times.
Most folk do have a hidden agenda. You have to be one step ahead and see things coming.

Trust everyone once- and even then not entirely. Trust is a very unique feeling-it hast to be nurtured from mutual regard. Just try and remain forthcoming, yet slightly wary.

it is a good quality to have but unfortunatly the more trusting of others, the more likely you are to get hurt. Maybe you start to make people earn your trust.

I trust very few! I've had so called friends 'stab me in the back' far too many times now and I have learnt not to trust so freely.

It's a question of who you trust. Trust someone you've come to know over time, but don't trust strangers until you know they're genuine. It is a good quality but only if you don't extend it to those who don't deserve it.
