So long as she is still some what capable I would go for option 3 or 4.

3. Contract with some one else to check on her in her own home during the day. There may be free or reduced rate program through your town's senior center. Things like meals on wheels can help her stay in her own home.

4. There are day program that allow you drop of elderly relatives. They have activities and stuff for the day and then you can pick her up at the end of the day. My Mother in law is in this type of program.

Trying to take care of elderly person, especially your own mother, can be very draining. I would not suggest taking that on as a fulltime responsibility.

And though some nursing homes are very good, they always give me the creeps.

I hope you can find a good solution for you and your mother.

I don't think I could provide the same level of service as a nursing home with 24 hour a day staff.

MY mother would absolutely have to go to a nursing home - there can be no question about that. THe same goes for my father and my brother.

I'd put her in a nursing home. She made me be the mom and take care of things when I was a kid and I resent her for that. I want to enjoy my adult life and not go back to being her nurse.

Do you have your own children who would need your financial support? If so, you shouldn't jip them. Talk to your mom. You may hurt her feelings for a little while but would you rather her die there resenting you and you living with regret the rest of your life. You never know though. My mom told me ill have to put her in a home when she gets senile because she doesn't want her kids wiping her butt and changing her diaper.

woops soory i answered the question as if you were asking what you should do, my bad!

at this point my mom has a girl that comes in 5 days a week if she needs more then she'd go into a nursing home --- she's in a seniors apartment complex and that's all part of the deal ---

I would take care of my mom. After all she took care of me when I needed it. I would never put her in a nursing home. Too many horror stories about how they abuse the defenseless old people.
