rather than a word for word dictation of what God thinks about some matters?

care to ponder the matter?

Can it be that God expects us to figure things out for ourselves?

case in point (and I am exploring this) some of the situations described in Bible texts are often horrible. I cannot any righteousness in, and cannot believe that God would WANT women, children, and men slaughtering other women, children and men. But, I can believe that God would want us to see that horror for what it is as a means of leading us humans away from that sort of thing.

Your observations?

I've read / studied / pondered the whole bible many times, and I'm happy to continue. I'm not looking for lectures and preaching. I'm looking for other "thinking."

The Timothy reference does NOT answer the question. Actually, it raises more questions than it answers. I have never seen the text translated to say "All the Bible was ...." I have seen the text translated to say "all God-breathed writings ..." or "All writings are God-breathed..." or blah blah blah. I think some translations make more logical sense than others, but still leave us pondering.

If you read the old testament from beginning (Genesis) to end (Chronicles), you'll notice a strange thing.....God disappears....The hands on God in the Garden of Eden who breathes life into humans and clothes them, gradually distances himself from humans through the course of the biblical narrative. So....in a snapshot.....of our current condition....God may not be dead.....but he is far far away......and a lot of us dream of Eden.....hoping to be close to God again....but in reality.....It works best for God and for humans....when God keeps his distance....

I agree! It is written by man for man, so therefore it will show human nature. The good and the bad. It was just easier to say "God told me to write this..." so that others would pay attention to it.

In Timothy it says "all scripture is God breathed"... the ONLY scripture there was then was the Torah, which was Instruction on how to live. And it was for a people who were wandering in the desert all the time. There is nothing in the Torah that states one must believe a savior came, died and was resurrected.

No word for word discription, read IITimothy chapter three and that should explain why things are like they are....sorry I didn't quote the whole thing but figured if you were really interested you would take the time to read it. Also amazing from the answers you got how many people don't understand what the old testament is about.....Good luck in finding the answer to your question.

*The bible is providing as man's condition-
WE ARE ALL SINNERS
* The Penalty- DEATH (Physically and Spiritually leading to
eternal damnation.
* God loves you and He doesn't want anyone to perish so He sent His only begotten Son who died on the cross for the ransom of many. He has a gift for you, ETERNAL LIFE. All he ask is for us to repent and accept Him as our Only Lord and Saviour recognizing His sacrifice of giving Himself as payment to redeem us.
* The Choice is yours. Here's a quote:
Every man has a choice.
Every man has the ability to make a choice.
Every man has the choice to live the life He chooses.
Every man will have to face the consequences of his choice.

God is not a God who dictates, He still gives us a free will, the will to choose. Ponder the matter.

Rethink your your question. The Bible has been so altered from its original text. If your question is of the current version no it is more the political call of the Vatican. If you are speaking the original text again no but for a different reason, it was/should have been more of a history and guide book.

I think the whole Bible does but does not contradict what God thinks of the matters involved.
