The lucky bags are a great idea....although it doesn't take up enough time. I have 3 boys 13,7 snd 4. To tell you the truth, I would paid a teenager to amuse the children for an hour. There is NO way they will sit through an hour or more long service (I am 35 and catholic and can barley do it). Please for the love of the couple and your own peace (not to mention the patience of your friends) please take the kids out for an hr or so!

Hire a babysitter. They are wonderful at keeping children amused. They will also make sure the children are present when they need to be, taken to the bathroom or even taken outside.

I've been to a wedding where the bride provided two babysitters because several children were invited. It was wonderful. Parents got to see the ceremony and enjoy the reception, and the children were happy and not bored.

They were very talented babysitters hired by the wedding planner.

If you believe that they won't be calm, have you considered not taking them to the wedding? It doesn't matter whose wedding it is, it would be foolish that somebody (i.e you ) spend all your time there trying to amuse them and to miss all the fun at the ceremony. Children aren't just for some things.

On the other hand, children usually like weddings and sometimes they find them really very interesting. I was 8 when first time had a chance to go to the wedding and it was so amusing for me..I guess it would have been as well even if I had been younger.

Yep using presents is a good idea to keep them occupied!
We tempted my younger sister (Aged 4) with a larger present (some new dolls) if she could keep quiet throughout the ceremony..and she did..suprisingly!
Although, my younger brother (Aged 6) did not want this.. he prefers smaller presents. For him, we bought a small notepad, A Pencil, Mini Etch-a-Sketch (doesn't make any sounds), A few small sweets and a lollypop (Non Rustly Wrappers), A few mini cars (again, silent ones obviously) and a few blocks of lego.

Hope this is helpful :)

I think it's lovely that you are thinking about this and the lucky bag seems a very good idea, I wouldn't give it to them too early though and perhaps a favourite non messy sweet for emergency. My neice got married earlier this year, her Dad remarried and she has a young brother aged 2 who had just learnt 2 new words...rubbish and disgusting....everytime the vicar spoke he shouted out 'RUBBISH' or 'PISGUSTING' he couldn't pronounce it properly. There was only one answer, take him out of the church but it meant half of the service was missed by everyone who tried to keep him quiet and that included Nan. Hope you all have a lovely day.
