I think what you are trying to point out is that Christ is considered the New Covenant. While the Old Testament is the Old Covenant, the old testament was meant for the tribes of israel while waiting for the messiah to come to earth. Now with Christ being the new covenant, you are correct in that the old testament is now nothing more then backdrop to the new testament. However, in the new testament Christ does define the new covenant, and if you follow that all 10 of the Old Commandments still apply in a simple statement "Love your neighbor". You see if you love your neighbor you wont STEAL from them you wont KILL them, in short you will be following all of the Important rules from the old covenant. Another good example of this is Paul's (? think it was Paul) dream in which a sheet is lowered from heaven with all of the animals Jews are not allowed to eat on it, and god prompts him with why refuse what i have made clean?

I think this is one of the biggest mistakes most modern christians make, just my opinion though :)

The old law and the old religious system was replaced by the new covenant church that Jesus personally established for our salvation.

Even though the old law was fulfilled and set aside by Christ, certain things that were fundamental to the human condition, particularly the 10 commandments, were readopted by the new covenant church, and remain in full force today.

So, all the various offenses you mention are still sins.

The big difference now is, under the new covenant of God's grace, we can rely on the grace and mercy of God to forgive our transgressions, rather than having to perfectly keep the old law, which no one was ever able to do, anyway.

We're still required to be truly sorry for our sins, and to truly repent (try to do better in the future). So we don't just get a free pass to sin.

Thanks to Jesus, we enjoy a much better and more personal relationship with our Creator God, than did the people of old.
