Last school year, I had over 100 tardies because I would oversleep and come to school late. (I also failed ALL of my AM classes. >_<)

Alarm clocks DON'T wake me up, and my family can't wake me up because my mom and brother work mornings.

I don't want to be late this school year, but "going to bed early" doesn't work for me. I'm a hugely heavy sleeper and the only thing that wakes me up is when my friends come over to wake me up. Obviously, they can't do that every day though (especially since I don't go to their school).

So what should I do that will get me to wake up?

Okay girl, I soooo know what you're going through!! Hence why I am STILL up at 5am.... I've had this problem since junior high and I'm 28 now. The only thing I've found that gets me up is setting an alarm clock next to me, but ALSO setting a loud one across the room about 5-15 minutes later. That way you HAVE to get up to turn it off either before it goes off or during. Another thing that helps (b/c I've actually crawled back into bed afterwards!) is if you take a lot of very deep breaths. Do it for 30 seconds to a minute. Then drink a cup of tea.

Ppl really don't understand this problem. They think we're just lazy. I have had so many problems with this throughout my life=( I would compare it to being in a coma when I'm asleep.

Things that might be the cause of the problem: depression, I think that was part of it in jr high/high school. But lately I've come to the conclusion that I might have hypothyroidism. I went to a doctor a couple years ago and he got me to do a simple blood test. He said NO I didn't have it, but recently I've heard that there are other ways you can test for it in cases of mild hypothyroidism. I don't have a family doctor at the moment, but I want to see someone soon about this! Here's a good checklist you might want to go over, keep in mind that you don't need to tick off ALL of these in order to have it.

I think that your first step would to be figure out what your priorities are. Sounds to me that it's obviously not morning classes. Try and schedule all of your classes either late monrning or early afternoon. If that's not an option, then try a tv alarm. A lot of newer televisions have timers so that you can set them to come on at a specific time. Also, you can try and attach a timer to a room lamp/light to come on at a specific time as well. That in conjunction with the tv coming on at the same time should wake you up. If all else fails, you may just have to start going to bed earlier. :-(

Go to the store and buy the LOUDEST and ANNOYING alarm clock there is (yes listen to them at the store, after all, you are a customer).

Put this alarm clock on the opposite side of the bedroom, from where you sleep. This way, you will have to get out of bed to turn it off.

I dispatch for a trucking company and my drivers never hear their cell phones or alarm clocks so they have this thing called a screaming meme (spelling), it makes a very loud high pitched noise that will pierce your eardrums and startle you awake. Good Luck!

There are different types of alarms you might try like those made for the deaf. There are some that light the room brightly and those that actually shake your pillow.

Before you go to sleep, tell yourself "I will wake up at 7:00 a.m." or whatever time you want to wake up. It works every time.
