actually i just had my cat neutered and the vetrinarians say that one year is the best time after the cat is sexualy mature you can do it sooner but it is not healthy for the cat because they need certian hormones obtained only by reaching sexual maturity so if you want your kitten to be with you a long long time i say wait a year (also in some states the government provides a discount of aprox $20 if you wait until 1yr to get the kitty fixed) its a tad different with female cats though if you get them fixed before they go into heat the first time it is supposedly less expensive messy and tramatic on the cat but that time runs usually less than a year aprox 7-9mo old depending on the cat if you want more specifics call a local vet hospital and they will be more than happy to give you all the information about what to do whats best for your new pet good luck and thank you for being a concerned and responsable pet owner

A female cat can have a litter of her own kittens when she herself is only 12 weeks old!!! Cat's mature much faster than dogs. Whereas dogs normally don't mature until between 6 and 9 months, a cat may mature as early as 3 months!!

Most vets will spay or neuter a cat very early. I'd call your vet and/or local vets and explain to them you have a cat that is ??? months old and will they fix one at that age.

They should be at least 2lbs. And they CAN NOT have kittens at 12 weeks of age like the above person believes sorry hon but they Usually have first heat between 6-8 months of age..Then every 4-6 months..

They can be done as small as 1 pound. (I don't do metric, sorry).
They should be done by the time they are 6 months at the latest, but sooner is definitely better. Call your vet and ask when they recommend to do it.
Good on you for having it done. It really does save lives and makes a better pet.
Good Luck

They can be de-sexed long before they're ready to have sex, and in fact you should have your kitty spayed/netuered before they go into heat for the first time- which can happen as early as 8 months old.

a cat can be spayed or neutered when they reach full growth at about 6 mo, you want to do this before they come into heat
