Yes, and they can do a lot of other controversial things. Paul said that we can do all things, but all things don't necesarily have any real value (edify). It may be sin to one person, but not to another because of their own particular view of it. Whatever is not of faith is sin. A Christian is not a Christian by whether he drinks or abstains, he is a Christian because he has believed on God's only begotten son, Jesus. And believes that God raised him from the dead after he was sacrificed for the sin of the world on the cross. It is not by following some "club" rules that one enters the kingdom of God, it is by simply believing in the old gospel story and tuning into God's love. Then the journey begins, and along with it purification. Many Christians choose not to drink or smoke or do some of the other practices they could (or may have once done) simply because they want to live a life pleasing to God and bringing glory to His name, and they realize that those things, even though not essential for salvation, are a waste of time and energy and even unhealthy. The Bible warns you about alcohol several times. The evil spirits within it. Do you think it is just coincidental that some Liquor stores advertise "Beer, Wine, Spirits"?
I would want to be real careful around it. Drunkards will not enter the Kingdom.
1 Cor. 6. 9:10
9) Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10) Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Scripture teaches that we are not to be associated with those things of the world that would cause one to cast a question upon our faith - for me to drink alcohol would be to cast a question upon my faith in Christ Jesus - but then I was a physcially tortured wife due to an alcoholic husband and find that it brings about more than just a question of my faith in Christ, but why would I want to subject my witness to potential health or legal issues? It's also why many non-believers see Christians as hypocrites and we are not to be a stumbling block for our own pleasures or desires.

Christians can do whatever they want. But rather are there things they should and shouldn't do, acceptable or not. It is acceptable for a Christian to drink a modest amount of wine, but nothing else. Other forms of alcohol are not acceptable, and are sinful.

yes and it has health benefits too...one to three drinks a day helps keep the doctor away...nothing in christianity says no alcohol...didnt wine represent jesus' blood in the last supper?

It is okay to drink in celebration, as long as it is in moderation. You should not ever get drunk. However you should only drink if you are of age. There are several versus throughout the bible, including Paul in Second Corinthians, that say you should follow Gods rules, but you should also follow the rules of the land you live in.

Exodus 22:29 - Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.
Numbers 6:3 - He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

The scriptures say they cannot. The Old testament forbids it. But since Jesus drank it, I guess it gives the Christians a license to drink it.

Yes, they can as I have never heard differently otherwise, so I guess they can.
But some religions does not permit use of Alcohol like Islam.

well if you believe in christ's first miracle, it was turning water into wine. he also said you could do things in moderation. that tells me that he said it is okay to drink alcohol - so why not?
