Suppose you have a line, call it AB, which is split into two segments, say AC and CB, where AC+CB=AB, then if the ratio of the length of the total line to the larger line segment is the same as the ratio of the larger line segment to the smaller line segment, then the line segments are in said to be in a "golden ratio." So, if you take this line and split it, and say AC is the larger piece, then if
AB/AC = AC/CB,
the lines are in a "golden ratio," which turns out to be 1.618...

I think I saw this on the discovery channel might try searching their site.
It was the ratio of height to width, I think it was around 2/3 's but if you use it the result is a pleasing to the eye design. I think thats what your asking. No I idea about "vasthu" must be hindi
