while in class he says he loses concentration for few minutes while teacher is explaining some concepts, he thinks he already knows that. But the fact is that later on he goes to teacher to learn that concept and is generally repriminded for being not attentive during class. He often hurts himself unintentionally. Till 10th Class he used to get aroung 85% marks but within 2 months of 11th class he has started getting only 60% marks in weekly tests inspite of the fact he studies for more than 5 hours aparts from school, and has confided in teacher that sometimes he is physically present in class but mentally he is not attentive. He really works hard and is preparing for JEE.

Talk to your son. Talk to your doc. He's showing classic signs, but I would make sure he isn't doing drugs first. Make him take a pee test. If he refuses, probably on drugs. If he is annoyed but will do it, probably ADD. Good luck!

Listen at the same age i had those same problems. Well except i was made fun of and thought about my life thats why i never concentrated. Is he too stressed or focused on goals? i got too focused on the kids picking on me i just tuned them out by daydreaming. When i changed school my life took a turn for the better and as i gained friends so did my grades i felt great. I dont think he has adhd. My 11 year old cousin has it and i know the symptoms. And i really dont think hes doing drugs thats just a laugh lol. I think its stress (not depression) just daily life stress consider a therapist to help him with whats going on. PLus he is 15 you must take in consideration of puberty. Well i hope i helped :P

He might just have a disconnect between the teaching methods used by the school and his own learning ability.
My daughter gets bored by traditional lecture-driven teaching. She excels at her own pace. It has to be interesting, also.

Another interesting idea: My brother in law was once pronounced too stupid to complete high school. His mother helped him by centering his learning around the one concept that he loved most: music. She found ways to identify math, art, history, etcetera, around music (math was easy...). He now has a doctorate in choral conducting and conducts orchestras throughout New York and New Jersey. You might try to figure out his favorite thing in the world and try introducing it into his studies in the same way.

I think Dr. Nick is right about eye sight. Most kids won't complain about not being able to see in class. Get his eyes checked.

Good luck!

my 11 yr old daughter goes through this quite often in school, at home etc. we found out that she is having mini seizures. she has a lot of learning disabilities and has to have constant1;1 and she has to constantly be taught things learning wise over and over.15 is a stressful age also, i would first make sure he is not doing drugs, more time on reading and less on the tube!!!find out if there is something that is bothering him. there are a lot of things that can distract a teenager. you just need to find out what is bothering him and discuss the short attention span to his doc.

Ok, this is VERY common. Trust me. THere are a numerous of things you can do to take care of this. But, make sure his SIGHT is alright. If he cannot see very well, it will distract him. Also, watch him when he studies. Watch to see is emotions...This could be a big part of stress. He is 15, and teens have a lot on their mind, and are often day dreaming. Try watching his habits, and keep a log of it all. Then if it persists, take him to the doctor, along with the log.

This is common among people with ADD/ADHD.The solution is a botanical fruit called Garcina Mangostina L.I am a distributor of this product called XanGo.There has been study after study on the medical uses for this plant.I cannot begin to tell you everything there is to know about it.You may do your own research at www.PubMed.com.And listen to personal testimonies on www.mangosteenstories.com,and www.choices411.com.This juice will help him concentrate. The problem here is a digestive one that is effecting his brain.I am not a doctor, but we do have plenty that will tell you the same thing. You may e-mail me at hinson4694@yahoo.com,Good Luck and God Bless you and your family right now!!

For pete's sake, don't let him watch any more TV!!!!! That's probably what ruined his concentration skills in the first place. Make him read short stories, then have him move on to actual novels. Also, play 'Memory' with him and other games of concentration like checkers and chess.

It's hormones! A natural process in life.He is going through hormonal changes at this age. Why does everyone want people to be machines? We are living breathing maturing beings! We are not robots!

Nothing shall help until you talk to him frankly and friendly way.Try to dig out what he wants and whats missing. Then try to bring him slowly and steadly on track.Neurologist may add more comfort.
