In the case of some family members, I know they have received the invitations but have not sent back the postage stamped response cards. We have sent out over 100 invites and were expecting 300-350 people but to date (past the date we asked for response on the response card) have only received 30 or so.

If you have e-mails for the majority of them, send out a group e-mail saying something like:

"We love our little RSVP cards so much that we are asking them to come back home. We hope that in their journeys and vacations they are now complete and ready to travel back to us. Thanks for understanding."

For the people who don't get it, just straight out ask them if they are coming or not as the caterers need a count. You can even ask them if the RSVP card got left out of their invite by mistake so that they know that they have put you out by not returning it in a timely manner.

If it's important that they be there, then call them now. Remind them that you put postage on those little cards for a reason.

Alternately, have a guest list at the reception that only lists those who RXVP'd ... turn away anyone not on the list. That is harsh, but those plates of food are EXPENSIVE and anyone with any class at all shouldn't expect you to guess whether they will be there or not.

You can start contacting them probably a week after the RSVPs were due. Happy Wedding!

Start calling now, you have to be able to provide the caterer with an accurate head count.
