Quite a few violent criminals on death-row seem to suddenly find God (surprise, surprise) so would going to jail be a good way to become a religious believer?

Although I don't condone going to jail for any reason, I will have to say this. I am a Christian and I am also a Correctional Officer with over 10 years experience. I have found more Christians in the prisons than I have found on this website. When a person gets incarcerated, suddenly he/she gets the feeling that they have reached bottom. They have a lot of time on their hands to just think and re-evaluate their life. God wants us to become humble but we need to make better decisions for ourselves to avoid going to prison. I have never worked on death-row but I can imagine that I would get real, real close to God then. Prison, although a bad place to be, is sometimes a great learning experience. There are plenty of inmates that have told me that if they hadn't got caught that they would most likely be dead now. Prison is not a very pleasant place to be but it sure sounds better than a devil's hell.

I don't know if it is or it is not, and I agree that does conveniently happen just before they die. It could be that when faced with no life for themselves they begin to think of the after life and the only option they come to is that there has to be a God because man is depraved and needs hope.

But as for you. If your looking for God don't go looking in a jail.

Get your self a Bible and discover him for your self not what some one else tells you. Then if you have questions get a number of answers from a number of different perspectives. Not Just a whole group of wiccans, Mormons, catholics, Buddhists, Muslims, whatever.

Search for truth diligently! And you will find it.

What do those people have to gain, BW? You think they're faking religion in order to obtain clemency? They're on death row! But remember, we're all going to die, just as surely as they are. There’s only one way to become a “religious believer,” and that is simply…to believe. It’s a choice anyone can make, any time, any place, even on the way to the gas chamber.

For your own sake, I urge you to ask Jesus to come into your heart and forgive your sins and be your Lord and Savior. He'll take away all your bitterness, frustration, and anger, and give you peace, joy, fulfillment, and eternal life. It is, truly, the deal of a lifetime! What do you have to lose, besides a life of misery?

In my opinion it is not necessary.
You just need an eye to look around to find god.
And a counter question is did Jesus go to jail do become a beliver?

What actually matters is not being "Religious believer" but to be a person who long to find the "ultimate goal" what all religion teach us.

And remember mostly, killings (pogrom, jehad or other killings are creation of religious fanaticism), irrespective of religion. So better be a searcher of the truth (professed by religion) than a religious fanatic or believer who will kill other for proving himself/herself correct.

Hope you will not commit any crime to go to jail to become a religious believer ultimately. And of course choice is yours at last.

Some times people in jail turn religeous because their lawyers tell them it will help them get out of jail faster. But some times God puts people in jail because that is the only way they will learn.

Historically, I've found that extreme stress conditions lead to spirituality. When the Roman Empire began to collapse, people turned to religion in droves; when the state reemerged during the Renaissance, people started to become more secular, meaning this-worldly; in China, when the Han empire collapsed, Buddhism moved in; when central government was restored, Buddhism quietly - and without persecution - disappeared.

My nephew was in jail for 3 months and he turned to the bible. Before that he didn't think of reading the bible. But he does now and prays a lot. He knows now that his grandfather that passed on is always with him in spirit. So Yes most incarcerated people turned to god and the bible.

No point in trying to become a religious believer because it is all in the mind.

No, but it's a good way to get the AIDS virus. 95% of the inmate population has the virus, and you know their reputation for butt rape. Actually any rape, it can be oral too.

You think they care about using condoms? You think they slide it in gently to avoid any tearing from thrusts? You think they care if it's consentual or not? LOLOLOL!!!
